I recommend reading fast, feast, repeat.
You don’t have to read all of it, but it lays it out for you and gives you a couple plans to ease your way in.

Love to hear this plan! In my experience losing the weight, the obvious main focus needs to be diet, but when you add some exercise like running into the mix, the weight does melt off fairly quickly. I am aiming for 10-15 lbs from current state by the Birkie in February & may sign up for a marathon in the summer/fall to keep the exercise motivation high!
Walked my first 9 yesterday since highschool golf but this time I joined the push cart mafia. Definitely felt the calories burning lol on some of the more uphill fairways. Looking forward to walking. Hard to beat $13 for a decent twilight round on foot
Get it! I walked a lot this year, when I could. Single strap, Jones Sunday bag…lots of compliments on the bag and lots of questions from members, “if I’m really walking”…Yes, Joe…my fat ass needs to get in shape!
whats your go-to shoe? I am running into the point where it seems every pair I have tried causes hot spots on the heel and/or becomes a full blown blister.
Footjoy Traditions are awesome for walking. I think they are lighter than flipflops. Love walking in them, and at 6’2 295 they put up with abuse.
Like above, the Traditions are great for walking….but I’m a classic golf shoe look, so I walk in Premier’s or my GFore’s. Once worn in, both comfy enough for me.
Can concur as a fat guy who walks. Traditions are great.
I’m a True Linkswear fanboy, mostly the zero drop heel style. If you’re a bigger guy with a wider foot and are going to walk, can’t recommend them enough.
I am leaning the True linkswear route.
Well I’ve definitely cleaned up the diet a little bit. But between working more than usual, zero daylight, etc I’ve yet to really implement exercise. Of course I have a simple home gym setup and electricity so darkness is a bad excuse but man it’s tough leaving and getting back in the dark. Wipes out every ounce of motivation
I’m with you! Especially hard is coming home tired in the dark and knowing that the first few workouts just SUCK. There’s no sugar coating it. I’m fighting the same thing. Today’s workout almost felt ok, and I remember workouts being fun, so I’m hoping I’ll turn that corner. You will too!
If you need someone to encourage/help with accountability, let me know. I’d be down for that too.
[In Homer Simpson voice] Mmm….Sugar
[With a lacivious leer] mmm… coating
Speaking of sugar, today marks 1 week without a Coke (soda not powder). As a life long soda/pop/coke addict this is a pretty big milestone for me. I miss it but know those empty calories aren’t helping with weight loss.
That is awesome! I have been doing much more seltzer and that has helped me cut out soda and cut WAY back on alcohol. Turns out my tongue just likes the feeling of a good assault.
I’m especially glad the seltzer scratched the itch, because the next step was making out with an electric eel, and that is just not sustainable.
Haven’t posted in the refuge in months (maybe over a year) but came to this thread today because it’s been a rough few months for me. Recently bought and sold a home, and between the multiple moves, and work, and a pre-schooler, life has been crazy. There hasn’t been any time to workout, and my diet is as bad as ever.
I love to walk the course, but the season is basically over in the Northeast, so I’m searching for something I can do. There are some bike and walking trails near the new house that I explored yesterday for the first time, so I’m hoping that will serve as a way to get more active over the winter. I know I should explore the idea of a home gym, but even that sounds difficult with all the other things I’m juggling these days.
I think I’m going to try and clean up my diet and stay more active until the new year hits, and then try and hit the ground running once I’ve had my diet in better shape for a few weeks.
Operation: A Shape Other Than Round is proceeding a-pace.
I’m currently down 23.8 lbs with 73.3 to go to my major goal.
I started really trying to do things right this year because this June I’m going to Scotland with a bunch of folks from the Duck Club, and I really don’t want to be the out of shape guy who can’t walk the courses or have to bail on any of our tee times because my body isn’t up for the challenge. I know a big part is being active, but another part is getting rid of some of the excess weight that both makes me slow and gets in the way of improving my golf swing.
I’m tracking food intake via MyFitnessPal and doing DDP Yoga for my main workouts and adding in walking as much as I can. I’m hoping to start adding Kettlebells back in come February.
Today I really didn’t want to work out. I wanted to practice zen-like oneness with my couch.

Thankfully, I had @PinePocky to be an in-house workout partner, and we did a 30 min. workout together. Having a partner who validates and encourages my goals is huge. I’ve definitely been in relationships where that wasn’t the case, and learning to accept encouragement after being conditioned to receive anything but has been an even harder process than developing healthy habits.
I hope all of you have at least one person in your corner the way @PinePocky is in mine.
Hey y’all I am starting to look at goals for the new years and this always on the list. I am interested in doing a whoop strain challenge anyone have a whoop and interested in a heavyweight strain challenge for the new year/holidays?
Doesn’t have to be weight related but more interested in just moving more each day and being intentional about that.
Wanted to check in with everyone. How are y’all doing in 2024. I’ve recommitted to my goal weight of 190 and joined a spin studio.
