Important q.
Might need to hit up one of our craftsmen to get a ballmarker or headcover or something for the overall highest % winner.

There are some big mother fuckers on the Refuge, we could start a football team!
I also need to lose a few lbs, 13 years ago I was 170, now I’m 220. If I cut out IPAs and pizza the weight would fall off, but I just love beer and pizza…
I like this thread, accountability is the key to following through.
I’m way in on this. As the man who started the “2019 Goals” thread I feel obligated to do that. This thread is perfect timing for me. I literally got both of my knees scoped this morning (see below pic) and have had 3 shots in my back for spinal stenosis the last 2 years. I’m 6’2” tall and weigh in at ~275 (will weigh myself when I can get myself up my stairs this weekend). I’ve been pretty much the same weight since I was 16 but have always been active (decent athlete: football, baseball, hockey in HS, rugby in college and actually competed for a flag football national championship in my 20’s). I’m 40 now and all that activity (plus a ton of golf) on my frame is taking its toll. When I created the 2019 Goals thread I just had twins but was really good about working out (say what you want but I find the Beachbody programs to be excellent) and lost 20 lbs in 2 months. Unfortunately, got another shot in my back in April and then finally decided to get an MRI on my knees to find out I have torn meniscus in both. I cut out the workouts (but not the trip to Bandon in June) and now that my club is aerating over the next week I thought it would be a good time to get this done ![]()
I’ll have a late jump on this but I’m still in and I this is why I love the Refuge.
Had this idea on my #bike home:
If we pull this off, we’re going to have clothing sizes changing everywhere. Maybe some kind of clothing exchange? If you drop from an XL shirt to an L, and someone else goes L to M, that could be a pretty good match… (pants are a little harder with inseam variation, but still matchable).
Best part of losing weight is new clothes, worst part is actually buying them, so this could help lessen any financial impact. #MoreMoneyMoreGolf
This is how we know you’re new to the fat game. True husky boys have clothes in sizes ranging from ideal weight to super thicc and rotate through accordingly
Is being new to the fat game an insult or a compliment?
Neither. Just an observation
I still hold out hope I’ll fit into my 180 lb clothes.
I’m 270.
Am I crazy?
I’ve still got 34-waist pants in my closet at my mom’s house… (to be fair I’m only a 38 now)
Keeping those goal clothes is just one of those weird coping mechanisms/mental gymnastics that we use while cycling in between varying stages of dieting and gaining weight. Weird phenomenon.
I wouldn’t say crazy but that’s a third of your current weight. Can it be done? Of course but it’ll take serious discipline and would require a focus on changes to get your metabolism up. As you get older it only gets harder. It’s a good “stretch” goal and if you got to 200 I’m sure you would be thrilled.
Note: I speak from experience of someone who went from 290 to 240 in 5 months at one point. I wanted to get to 220 (somewhat realistic) and I couldn’t get past the 240 mark. It ultimately frustrated me so much I gave up and went back to my current weight of 275. Moral of story: really appreciate the smaller wins and that’s why I think this contest is great
I read the initial post and had to write right away.
This thread was made for me.
I am 6’6" and weigh around 365.
Finding any clothes/hat/shoes that fit is hard. Shoutout to stores with a big and tall section.
Initial weigh in was… not pretty.
New all time high

Question: what is everybody thinking for a plan of attack? Seems like some diet changes will be widely adopted, anybody looking to pick-up a gym membership for this? That’s another one of my excuses…and feel like I could / would be so much better if I hit the gym immediately after work and don’t go home first
I love this.
Some things to think about:
- Dehydration tricks you into thinking you’re hungry
- Read up on the ghrelin hormone
- Consider that we are the only animal that eats breakfast
- Eat a lot of fat (seriously, calories are a bullshit metric.)
- Sugar (bread & alcohol are sugar) and dairy are your problem.
Down 35 lbs from my peak of 197. You can all do this.
Most importantly, learn about the Industrial Food Complex. You have been lied to from an early age. “Drink your milk” and “eat a good breakfast” was never meant to benefit you. It was meant to benefit Big Food and Big Government.
Is 6 ft 202 considered a #thiccboi? Not tryin to throw shade or anything
I’m going to hit the gym hard and be more active in general (taking my dog on walks, even just reading a book instead of vegging on the couch)
As for diet, I’m going to try to eat smaller meals throughout the day (aiming to eat something every three hours) and have more whole foods with less sugar.
Sent the official weigh in to the WhatsApp. Ties my all time high as well. 242.
New school year coming, oldest is starting kindergarten. Got the wife on board to make some changes about food in the house. She’s trying to shed some baby weight currently as well so I’m optimistic.
I told her about this thread and she said whatever helps instead of just rolling her eyes like she does about anything else I talk about refuge related.
As someone said upthread, a diet change is almost assuredly a must. MyFitnessPal or similar app to track food (and H20!) intake is a step in the right direction.
I spent last winter on a pretty stable program and while I could cheat my workouts and still drop body fat%/weight I couldn’t cheat my diet. The scale never lied as to what was more important.
Any increase in movement will help of course. I personally hit the gym because I’m not getting any younger and I have to keep up with my #gainz on the course. And I just feel better after knowing I got a workout in, the scale be damned. YMMV.
