Heard on the No Laying it Up Podcast

Ah so you hate jobs and innovation? /s

Jack used like 3 drivers over the course of his career. It’d be nice to be able to just buy a nice driver once or twice in my golfing life without it being quickly outpaced by the runaway train of technology.

I think they aren’t obsoleted as quickly as the community seems to believe, especially the good ones. Ping G400 and one of the TM SIMs for instance.

Ya I went through a bunch of drivers until I settled on my current ping but before that process I played a TaylorMade R11 for 10 years and didn’t really feel like I was losing much.

I’ve tried 3 different heads (Paradym X, AI Smoke Max, AI Smoke Triple Diamond Max) with my gamer shaft and none of them outperformed the original Rogue I’ve been using for 4 years.

Not apples to apples, but about 4 or 5 years ago, the golf course that I am a member at started cancelling tee times due to frost delays, and I am all in favour of it.
That time of the day, it is all member tee times, they give us continual updates in the App and when the decision to open the course is made, they go with the previous 2 tee times as the first to go out.
The other system of going off the sheet just meant the groups on the other end of it got boned; could have an 11 AM tee time, and not go out until 1 or 2 PM then could only get 9 holes in.
I am on Vancouver Island, so frost is typically only a problem when we also have limited daylight hours as well.

There’s something to be said for that system, IF there’s a clear understanding of how the system works and timely communication.

With this system, if you book very early times, as I’m wont to do, you take on the risk of frost delays. Instead of everyone having to adjust their day by an hour or two, you have a few times get blown up but everyone can keep to their schedule.

But communication and expectation setting is required.

@Randy - I can unfortunately confirm that @MerchCzar 's experience at Bethpage is, in fact, standard operating procedure. Any sort of delay is just a straight up cancellation of tee times. Good luck ever getting an explanation for that.

I spent many many many (many many) hours waking up at 4am, refreshing foreup, and otherwise battling for spots at the “People’s Country Club” before I finally accumulated and coughed up the dough required to join an actual country club.

The easiest way I can describe the Bethpage clubhouse experience is that it is essentially what would happen if you let the same people who run the DMV run a 90 hole golf facility.

thoroughly ejoyed the pod on ben’s game. having the two “normal” golfers interview him provided the most quasi-lol moments i’ve had on a pod in a long long time.

a few highlights:

@Randy talking about where he looks when he hits the ball

@sundaybag talking about making his putt for -6 when no one else was around during tourist sauce is a hysterical scene. wish that was on camera. “i never knew you made that putt” – @djpie lol

well done all

It was a very fun pod. Did the YouTube version, and my wife was half paying attention when the pic of young Ben standing on a green came up, and she looked up and said “wow, he must have been a late bloomer”, which I’m pretty sure is a compliment?

Didn’t have hair anywhere but my head until I was damn near 17!

I’ve come around on it being a compliment. Now that I’m in my 30’s, I feel lucky to look super young.
