Golf and Photography

Golf course photography is nothing more than landscape photography. Learn landscapes and apply it to the golf course, including the 4am wake up to get the best light!

I knew I recognized these pictures. @IlliniGolferHack if you ever are coming through let me know. I live like 10 minutes from Purgatory. It’s a very interesting spot.

Will do!

In San Diego for a conf this week. As soon as I could get out, I sprinted up to Torrey Pines with the drone to take some golden hour shots. Might not be the greatest course in the world, let alone the area, but man was it beautiful there…

Nice. I like the first pic the best! :+1:

And I’ll contest that the North Course at Twilight hour during the week is one of the best golf vibes around.
Love the shots man!

Just copped a Sony A7III with a Sony Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS lens (I think).

It’s a video camera, but will probably shoot nice pics too!

the video specs are a touch better than the stills specs…but I wouldn’t call it a video camera. I’m sure you’ll love it!

This is the gold standard for golf content video production. Our hero’s from NLU just upgraded to these and it’s the same rig EAL uses.

If this isn’t a video camera, idk/idc what is.

this style of camera do either equally as well nowadays…guess I shouldn’t call it a stills camera either haha, more differentiation with higher end stuff though.

I have the same. It’s an amazing stills and video camera.

Eye AF is something else!

I’m surprised how much Sony has started to really assert themselves into a market that a few years (at least I thought) was completely dominated by Nikon and Cannon.

I have a few Sony cameras around the house. The a6xx series is probably my favorite. Small enough to fit just about anywhere. Only downside is the smaller sensor but honestly it’s not a big deal for most.

I’ve got my new Sony a6400 on a little NYC trip this weekend. Not golf photography, but pretty excited to play around with it in a place with so many photo ops and practice shooting manual.

How is that camera? I’ve had my eye on it for a while. Did you consider the a6300? Thanks!

I’m a photography noob, but so far I’ve loved using it. Image quality (on both stills and video) is incredible.

People complain about the functionality of the menus/etc, but I’ve found it to be straightforward enough.

I was between the a6400 and the Fuji XT-30. Mainly went with this because the Sony is better on video. The Fuji wins in the design/looks category for sure, though. I considered the 6300, but wanted the flip up screen because my gf is getting into vlogging. 6300 is pretty old tech, too. I decided to go ahead and make the investment knowing I’ll have this camera for awhile.

What lenses did you start with?

Just the kit f3.5-5.6/16-50. I can sense the limitations on it already, but fine enough for a beginner. imo, the limitations make me get more creative on my shots.

Going to order one of these, too: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bozzou/pinhole-pro-x-18-36mm-worlds-first-pinhole-zoom-lens?utm_source=www.cinema5d.com&utm_medium=kickbooster&utm_content=link&utm_campaign=67d52a22

Check at the usual areas for a used 6300 if you want to get a great camera cheap. You’re going to have the same lens mount if you decide to upgrade through Sony’s range later. IMO glass and framing are more important than most other variables.

Looks like the a6600 about to be released. Perhaps prices will adjust in response.
