I had a lot of these same questions earlier in the thread and @TCRBrad hooked me up with a great video tutorial to get started. Just to give you a basis this was made for a 18+ handicap photographer.
Sony needs to update the 70-200 2.8. It back focuses to much for my liking and the price. Outside of not having stabilization, the Tamron beats the Sony in almost every way IMO.
Thatās strange. Have you updated the software on the 70-200?
How do you update the software on a lens? Not a joke, Iām actually curious
I rented the lens to try before spending the cash and that was my experience. After that I reached out to a couple of professional photographers I know and they both said they had the same issue with the Sony. Additionally several the of the reviews on youtube when comparing the Sony 70-200 GM and the Tamron 70-180 2.8 reported the issue with back focusing as well.
Itās really no different than updating the firmware on the body. Itās one of the reason I love Sony. The gear typically improves with age.
Finally pulled the trigger on the camera and should be here end of week. Went ahead and ordered the A6400 over the XT-30 (I waffled hard and just had to make a decision). Coming with the 16-50 f/3.5-5.6 and ordered the 55-210 f/4.5-6.3 for an extra 50$ so I could play and learn. Hopefully Iāll be back in here soon enough with more questions as I dive more into the hobby and learn some of the nuances yall have talked about for 700+ posts.
Welcome to the club, I just got an XT-30 a couple months ago!
This is nuts!
Picked up a 70-200mm f/2.8 and hoooooooooly shit does it make a difference. Thanks again for the suggestions.
Before ever brining drone to the course communicate with the golf shop your intentions or it may be a very short round and loong awkward convo. High school golf team learned this the hard way last fall on team picture day.
Niiicee.
I just spent a weekend with the Canon 100-400. Landscape stuff, not golf but would love to get that beast out on the course.
Doesnāt look like weāll be playing golf in Texas any time soon though.
Thoughts?
This lens is on my list of ones to add to the arsenal (along with the 300mm)
I think the copy I rented was a little beat up⦠had bad zoom creep and the focus was slow. That said, the image quality is excellent.
Hereās a few shots: https://adobe.ly/2Zsfr9q
#s 7, 10, 11 (pano), 16, 17, 21, 26 (handheld pano) were shot on the 100-400
EDIT: I should add that I will probably not buy this lens⦠I rarely used it at 400 so I think the 70-200 2.8 with an extension is the way to go for me.
Just a cross post in here as this is a little specific for the Silk Road. Cheap Canon mount Tamron zoom that has taken some awesome pictures for me but Iām too lazy to list on eBay.
I just ordered 2 Aputure MC RGB lights. Really excited to get them in and use them. I mostly plan on using them for product photography for my ballmarker business but Iām sure I can come up with a bunch of other uses too. Such a cool little product.
Thought Iād come and do a bit of bragging as I was totally caught off guard this weekend. A couple months ago I made some postcards out of some golf photos Iāve taken at cypress point, Pasatiempo, northwood, etc. basically a little side hustle project.
Well I guess the head from Mayacama, one of the more upscale clubs in Northern California, saw some of my cypress point postcards and wants me to come up and play a couple rounds and shoot some photos for postcards for the pro shop to sell. Needless to say Iām stoked. And also in need of a camera upgrade. My iPhone 8 is about ready for retirement. Open to any camera suggestions under $1k
I like the idea. Maybe keep it out of his face though. I get the sense of the picture on his shirt. Gets too busy in the face
Itās very cool!
It took too long for me to realize it was a golf hole. If this was on Instagram and you wouldnāt have told me it was a double exposure I wouldāve scrolled by it like it was a regular picture. In the half a second you have to grab somebodyās attention, I donāt think it wouldāve grabbed mine. Do with that what you will! Very cool picture.
