With two awesome film rooms that are already out (and more to come) from @Tron and @SCGC5th’s Scotland trip, I figured I’d take this opportunity to start my first thread after 3.5 years on here.
Please God don’t let there already be a thread because I swear I searched
Machrihanish
Shiskine
Just finished the Shiskine one and there is nothing I want more than more 12 hole courses in this world…
During the drone shot overhead of 12, it looked like there was a bunker near the green that is so deep and so small, I have no idea how you even swing the club enough to get out of it
If you like the videos, check out Jim’s latest book. It documents his travels in Scotland after the most heartbreaking thing a father can experience. 10/10.
12 holes is the perfect strategy for shooting lower scores after the Machrihanish debacle.
Watched episode one with my girlfriend and she’s like
*stinks!
Only kidding Tron, it obviously takes a ton of guts to put yourself out there like this, and as someone currently planning a trip to Scotland the content is greatly appreciated.
Did a trip similar to this in June 2022 - Turnberry, Shiskine, Machrihanish and Machrihanish Dunes. Fantastic courses and a beautiful part of the world. We caught it with some really challenging weather but was fun.
As Tron said when he talked about the trip earlier this year, getting on and off Arran by ferry can be a challenge but we managed to do it ok. We had to cut our second trip around Shiskine short and make a run for the last ferry of the day to make sure we could play Machrihanish and Machrihanish Dunes on the Sat / Sunday.
Campbeltown is great, lots of whisky on offer including a number of distilleries in the town.
Definitely look into this part of Scotland if you’re planning a trip. I do a yearly Scotland trip with a group of guys in London and would be happy to share the details of the travel company that we use if people are interested.
Shiskine video was great. It brought back some incredible memories from a day spent going round and round. Arran is pretty awesome. Can’t wait to get back.
Very enjoyable, emotional, real and so much not like what everyone else does. The drone shots could be a silent movie. It’s easy to highlight courses in a way that doesn’t have all these extra human elements, but this way just makes it better. The moment Jim talks about looking over the land on the last day of his trip was real and in a way settling.
Tron looking like he was gonna absolutely murder someone over the tire incident was funny though.
