FcF Presents: The Classic Club Challenge Part Deux (CCC2) June 1st at Diamond Springs

@Manhattan - are we using the 7-40 years as the ruling on classification or the materials guidelines in the original post?

Detail: would TM Original One mini driver qualify as a 1 pointer?

Similarly, for putter, is it more about design? Would a classic blade or double blade earn you a point regardless of age?

Some of both. Modern technology, materials, and manufacture technique can provide a ā€œbetterā€ version of an old design. In the spirit of the event, I’d encourage the use of historical / originals whenever possible and would defer to offering fewer (or no) points for modern equivalents.

i.e If you show up with a TM mini-driver you’re getting nothing

Resubmitting my bag as there have been some changes to the bag from 18 days ago.

Driver: 2014/2015 Nike Vapor Pro (Volt Color Edition) - running it back from when I first got into the game of golf and Nike still made golf clubs (+1)

Woods: Titleist 980f 7 wood - every since getting this during the winter blues in Chicago I’ve loved it (+1)

Irons/Wedges: Mizuno MP32s (6-PW) and MP-30s (4-5) - dipped my toe into the YOTB a few years back and this combo set has seen Diamond Springs before and loved it. I forgot about the wedges and have now procured a gap wedge and sand wedge from the mid-late 2000s (+1)

Putter: Ping Shea H Scottsdale Edition - After some time in the lab the Wilson AP is not cutting it. So dug in the back of my closet to find this beauty from 2013. It’s maybe 32 inches tall, so gotta get limber. (+1)

Also I know this doesn’t count for the quota, but I am bringing this old school Rawlings bag that I picked up a few years ago.

+1 brownie point for aesthetic*

Fair and not unexpected, just wanted to tease out the question.

My original commitment was to walk with a raw minimalist bag and I think I’ll stick with that:

Driver: TM OO mini driver. (+0)

Woods/Hybrids: none (+0)

Irons/Wedges: Miura MB001 4-P, Miura Forged 53 & 58 (+1)

Putter: EVNROLL ER2 (+0/1… judges ruling?)

Lock it in.

best I can tell this is right on that 7ish year window and ostensibly attempting to be (at release) a very modern piece of tech… leaning 0 points unless you can convince me otherwise

I am not a putter expert. It appears a putter head milled from a steel block like others and only magic in the right hands. I have no basis to disagree… may pivot to a Cleveland Classics 2 which was released the same year as the irons/wedges.

So Titleist 975 series driver and fairway wood would be +1 clubs if I follow the math right and the shitty persimmons that I got free off the curb would be +2?

yep

Will I get any bonus for dressing like an absolute knob? (Like, moreso than usual?)

depends how you value the eternal admiration of our hearts and minds

If someone has no classic woods/hybrid beyond driver, can they bring and use multiple persimmon drivers, one as driver and one as a ā€œwoodā€ for additional +2 for the woods category? (asking for a friend of course… )

Yes, I’d be willing to grant a 2nd persimmon wood as a DoD/3w option to count towards the ā€œwoodsā€ category

Alternatively, I believe I have 3/4/5w persimmons available as well if it’s of interest

Give the people what they want, Ed.

I’m just showing up with most of my normal bag, sans TSR driver and replaced with the 983k. The mb001 blades are excited to make their competitive appearance, instead of being relegated to the occasional post work day 9 hole walk
