Last i checked there’s a direct flight via allegiant from phx to grr…
I think we could crowdfund that ticket to see the hozels live.
@Manhattan - judge’s ruling: if I throw a TM SLDR hybrid (2013) in my bag, does that qualify for point?
Listen, the parameters shifting twice on the three tiers of golf technology make for a messy personal judgment on eligibility.
Give me your guilt trips on not going full antique, but also give me an answer on the middle tier point eligibility. I’m not trying to min/max by buying stuff I don’t have, just trying to embrace the spirit of the tiering with things I already have.
Seems like this should be the guiding principle. I think if you’re/it’s on the fence, you should ask ‘Is this a club I regularly use?’
If the answer in no, I would think it’s fine. I feel like the spirit of the event is to play with clubs that you don’t regularly use.
That’s fair. My interpretation was a rollback of modernity and technology advancement, benefitting your point total for how far back you roll.
By your interpretation, I would consider everything I’ve proposed (apart from the mini driver) to be something I don’t normally play due to age/design of equipment, including the blades I’ve committed to for this season (YOTB, for ball striking reasons).
I think that qualifies me for +1 in each of the woods/hybrids, irons/wedges, and putter categories, and invite scrutiny if anyone feels that is scummy.
As an independent third party I would say no to the hybrid.
1 pt for woods on older hybrid given (and heavy emphasis on the quotation marks here) “eligibility”
Not playing modern technology maximized forgiveness is a portion of what we’re doing here. A bit of an eye test on how good your swing and game really is! Can you play by feel? I don’t want a rangefinder telling me 92yds adjusted, I want a bush on the side of the fairway that’s ~about~ 100yds and some artistry!
The middle tier was partially created to at least encourage 90’s gear if you couldn’t find playable historical items. If there was no value there at all people will just show up with their daily gamers and trust technology vs persimmons has advanced them more than 4 or 5 strokes will. Maybe that’s true! But what’s the fun in that?
lol almost identical timing on the post.
Definitely not the spirit on the thing, but - per black and white guidelines as written - would be permittable
I appreciate the rationale and I’m fine not taking it, it’s why I asked.
Looking forward to a nice low-tech walk with good humans and cold bevvies.
We did have at least one person explicitly utilize the guidelines last year to maximize their advantage. It worked for them. Guidelines were changed this year to (hopefully) make that much tougher.
Submitted for committee approval-
Northwestern 1wood
Spalding 5wood
Northwestern Concorde 3-PW
Acushnet Bullseye putter
Fortunate to find all at Goodwill, much to my wife’s chagrin (“jc, how many fuckin 50yr old clubs are you gonna buy?”)
Stocked for the Classic!!
N+1
Those Titleist persimmons are sick
Wedges are separate from irons for scoring? Thought they were included with irons?
If not, I need to add to my scoring.
I don’t know what I did, but accidentally deleted my original post I think (I blame the crying 1 year old with a fever that’s trying to mash on the keyboard with me)… I humbly submit this highly unforgiving and non versatile setup in the Traveling Sunday Bag. I think it’s +8 maxed out, but let me know if my math is off. I couldn’t completely date the iron set but seem to be early 80s from what I could glean.
2 persimmon Titleist drivers for +4 (driver+woods)
1-PW Titleist tour model blades circa +4 (irons+wedge)
Putter - Acushnet Bullseye flange John Reuter Jr. design +2
I also have an extra 1 and 2 iron and a very nice condition 2001 bullseye blade by Titleist Scotty Cameron putter for anyone who may like to give them a spin. (The Cameron is available for purchase as well ).
You are correct irons and wedge is one category.
Thanks! Yeah they are in pretty awesome shape too… Whole set was quite a find in my old neighborhood. Purchased at estate sale about a solid 8 iron away from the fence to Chicago Golf Club. I’d be happy to swap one of them for a 3/5w of similar ilk at the event so I had some other option between D and the 1 iron butter knife.
Subbing my TaylorMade Burner driver for a Titleist 975J driver. Doesn’t change the scoring, just alerting for posterity.
