Sure, if you want a Coke. But I’ve never heard anyone order a coke than say they was Dr. Pepper.
I think root beer is much more regionalized, as opposed to national like Coke and Pepsi. The big one in the SF Bay Area was A&W, with maybe Mug as a second. Never heard of Barq’s or IBC until I came to the Midwest.
In my house, if someone said they were going to the store for a coke and came back with a Dr. Pepper, no one would bat an eye.
