Those are both on my list to venture out west for. Sounds like they’re worth the trip.

I had no idea we had such an Overlook crew here! Yes, that course is my home course, I live in the city so have about 10 minutes.
It is nothing special, but everything I want for muni golf. Beers at the Sandtrap with a nice spot to chill, grass range with lights, very walkable. Love it. I am out there couple times a week typically, Especially late in the year, I can go out for a 2.5 hour 18 holes typically.
@Proff22 Congats on on winning the house lottery, hit me up once you get settled in. Welcome to Lancaster!

Royal Manchester and Wyncote are my go to courses if I want a challenging round. Foxchase and Royal Oaks are my go to value courses where they still offer a great layout but are a little more forgiving and way cheaper. Then I usually go to Overlook and Four Seasons for some super cheap practice focused rounds or drinking with friends. Outside of that I always try to get out to Broad Run and Iron Valley once or twice a year for something different.

Loooooooooooooove Wyncote. My favorite course. Plus they give you a ticket for pay for 5 rounds, get the 6th one free. So I always pay for my buddies when we play there.

I actually did a double at Iron Valley/Broad Run once. That was a long day.
IV has such a terrifying start, as the first hole has the cliff where if you go left, either you just lost your tee shot or you may as well go hike Hawk Mountain.

This is pretty close to my routine as well.

Iron Valley a few times a year - Nice views and challenging course. Dumbest par-5 in the state of PA.
Wyncote a few times a year - Great parkland golf. Play the right teebox, test your skills in the wind.
Foxchase - Solid course that is pretty fun. Can play slow in the summer.
I like Royal Manchester, I just don’t get out there enough.

I assume #13 is the par 5 you hate with the blind tee shot and then approach shot right over the pond on the green?

I’m assuming you’re talking about number 7 as the worst par 5…

Probably the one on the front nine #7 i think it is where it narrows to about 7 yards wide if you want to hit driver and it all slants towards the lake.

My vote is that it’s #7.

Yep - 7 sucks.

When the layup is as risky as going for it, you know it’s dumb. Has anyone thought about laying up to like 160-170? Not sure if it’s safer there than to like 120 in

#7 it is.
No shot to go at it in 2, and a nearly impossible layup to a small patch of grass that slopes toward the quarry.
I think they just got tired of carving out the hillside, and called it good. lol.

Edit: Image below. Note that the trees overhanging the layup zone 1 partially block layup zone 2, unless you are on the left side of the fairway. TINY green that slopes. 5 is a very good number.

I think 5 is a great number at both 7 and 13.

Woah this thread escalated quickly!

I wish I would’ve seen some of these messages last night and tried to meet up with some of the 717 crew. Walked 18 at Grandview this AM and just finished up.

I’m around for the next couple weeks with an open schedule so anyone who wants to play, just let me know and I more than likely will be in!

Loving all the new replies in the thread lately. No coincidence everyone is amped up with this spring preview we’re in weather-wise this week. Been awhile since I’ve posted in here so greetings to all the new folks. I think with our growing forum here we are for sure in for a meetup sometime this summer.

Just out of curiosity, and from the posts above I think we can agree on 7 at Iron Valley being dumb, what are some of everyone’s favorite/most hated holes around the area? I’m not going to influence anyone and post mine just yet, but this is always a contentious talk with my buddies.

You know for as annoying as 7 is, taking a few junko balls and a nine iron off the 8th tee and having a closest to the culvert contest over the fairway below you into the lake is a hell of a lot of fun. Makes you forget how impossible both 7 and 8 are… anything less than 10 on those two holes is a great day.
