Calvin Peete Pod

Hope you’ll take some time and give this one a listen. It’s one that’s been on our wish list for a couple years.

My youngest daughter was diagnosed with Tourette’s at the age of 7. The challenges are many. I couldn’t imagine trying to navigate life without helpful resources to mitigate those challenges. I sent this episode to her this morning.

Mr. Peete led a fascinating life. Exceptional work as always @KVV.

Excellent episode. I’ve got a few long road trips coming up. This is going in the re-listen lineup.

That was so good. It left me wanting to hear more details on his life. Tough, given there wasn’t much documentation back then.

I teared up at the end. Great work @KVV.

A few minutes in and loving it. When I first started watching golf in the mid 80’s I found a few players that I really liked, and Peete was one of them.

Had to laugh about the pool hustling. My uncle grew up under fairly meager circumstances. He was a very good athlete and was able to use that to get into college. While he was in college he paid his way through in part by hustling pool in Greenville, NC. A few years ago I told him about a new fancy BBQ joint in Hillsborough NC and he said, “that used to be a good place to go if you wanted to get stabbed over a game of pool.”

Just because i love cool swings. Sort of a Furyk backswing with a Scottie lateral slide and deadly accurate.

Perfect timing. I’ll listen to this one on my flight tomorrow.

A stat that blows my mind every time is how deadly accurate Peete was off the tee with persimmons and old tech golf balls:

From 1981 to 1990, Peete led the PGA Tour in driving accuracy an astonishing 10 times , averaging nearly 82% of fairways hit during that span.

Straight tempo town. My word.

@KVV thanks for all of the work you put into this pod, and all of the other special projects. NLU does a lot of things very well but these are a true point of differentiation. Can’t wait for the next one!

1 lost ball in 1200+ professional rounds.

Feels like a swing the golf instruction world should study a bit

What is stopping men from dressing like this?

Not having the necessary amount of swagger to pull it off.

What a fantastic listen, Gen Valley being his first round was a wild bit of info to learn.

These are great, thank you @KVV - UK person and ashamed to say I’d never heard of Calvin so this was enlightening in many ways.

Imagine the force of will and talent to achieve what Calvin did. Have now also watched his swing about 1000 times - tempo goals. I wish I had the “Xerox” nickname, sadly more like Xerox with a paper jam.

His caddy, “Golf Ball” sounded like an absolute menace. I need that gold chain.

Awesome pod! Rochester honored Peete last year when the CE named a new pitch and putt area at GVP after him:
