first!
dang it

The dodgers are still the dodgers of the last decade, you’ll have to get on the waitlist.

Hopefully we’ll let them hold onto that title.
That’s unfortunately going to be Kimbrel’s lasting legacy with the Phillies.
I had the same reaction any time he came out of the bullpen as J.T. did when Jared Hughes came running out of the bullpen.
That’s another all time baseball gif.
Tony Gwynn would have turned 64 yesterday. RIP
Some insane stats from his career -
He averaged 21 strikeouts per season over his 20 year career. PER SEASON. Insanity.
Starting with his second season, he batted over .300 for 19 straight seasons. The most by any player in the modern era.
His career batting average with two strikes was .302, first all-time. Second place on that list was forty points lower (Wade Boggs .262)
An amazing player with hitting abilities we haven’t seen since. But I sometimes wonder what his game would be like in today’s MLB. As great as he was as a hitter, it was mainly all singles and surprisingly few walks. He had an uncanny ability to get his bat on the ball and put it in play. But that seems to not be valued as much now. I wonder if a Tony Gwynn today would be appreciated appropriately.
Maybe we should do a multi part pod cast on this…
Or maybe players like Gwynn are appreciated appropriately today now that we know better than to think of batting average as a panacea.
Career .847/132 OPS/+ still plays today and in any era.
Should we all just post our favorite all-time baseball gifs??
I’ll go first:

It’s crazy how bad Apple TV is at broadcasting baseball. The announcers are bad and the score bug is possibly the worst of any channel. They have practically unlimited money and have had multiple years and they still haven’t figured it out.
But on a plus side, Hyde didn’t bring Kimbrel into the game.(as the closer)
I’ve taken to listening to radio audio so I can still at least get the local commentators
Gwynn hit for 49 doubles and 119 RBI’s in 1997. Both marks that would have been 2nd the mlb last year
Something tells me that an elite hitter like him could have adjusted to the needs of an era and still been rather productive today
