Yeah. @wblove I hope that you guys are taking a cart.
I walked 36 holes in June a few years ago… it was brutal. We played Blue in the afternoon and I’m not kidding, I don’t remember a single hole. I almost made the ultimate sacrifice to the bone zone.
Shoutout @bostondave
Bring a change of clothes and plan on showering in said delays. Refreshing choice.
I changed socks during the 2nd Black delay. That alone was life-changing. I can’t imagine what a shower would have done.
Also little to no shade spots out there. You’ll be in the sun a lot.
Had a great time at my first refuge event. I appreciate you guys for the warm welcome.
I also now know that I have a real thing for uphill tee shots.
Good boys rode us all the way back down 27
We’ll get them next year @P-Funk!!! Thanks for being a great teammate. One of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time. We had a lot of fun. From me needing an emergency stop in the woods after the first lightning delay, to @mintbucket telling @adodgerfan he “doesn’t need eye surgery, but I want it from you” which had @MidwestHack and pissing ourselves from laughing so hard. And of course many, many, many refills from the bucket! Thanks to @RDUgolfer, @diesel, @jsteve15, @Smidler, and @ty1x for three wonderful rounds of golf. And a special extra big thanks to @Big_RanDeer for putting the whole thing together. That had to be so stressful dealing with the dickholes at Streamsong in addition to dealing with 47 other degenerates.
I just read this in the PGD airport bar and am laughing so hard again I’m crying. Hall of Fame line by @mintbucket.
And not for nothing, @adodgerfan had his share of highlights:
-
Won the MP 20 MMCs.
-
Provided advice on vertebral and other spinal column-related issues to the rapt attention of @4PuttLegend before adding the caveat, “…but you should probably see an orthopedic surgeon, I’m just an eye doctor.”
-
Figured out @kblewis14 insane Euchre scoring system and how to play the game itself in about 1.5 hands.
If I ever have an elective eye surgery, he’s my guy, too.
Also have to give a shoutout to my roommate @DombrowBryan - went in blind and couldn’t have asked for a better roommate. Hooked me up with socks on course, supplied a bottle of tequila (and limes and a cutting board and a knife…), sent me home with rocks glasses, answered my prayers by being awake when I stumbled in on Saturday night at the assumed time of 11pm that was actually 2am, and saved me with an energy drink on Sunday morning. In between he played some great golf (bad by his standards) and was an awesome guy to hang with.
My wife and most of my friends think I’m strange for showing up to these things knowing almost no one, but I love it. Every person I’ve met at the 2 events I’ve attended has been great and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to participate.
Right back at you roommate. I was initially hesitant to stay on property because I wouldn’t know a roommate and it couldn’t have worked out better.
Even though the golf wasn’t good for me, was still one of the most fun weekends in a long time. Now let’s run it back (in like 5 years once I’ve actually recovered).
“Siri, how do i get a tattoo of a gif?”
“What’s Epstein Island like?”
I don’t know if I have ever laughed harder than spending a few hours around this table watching us all slip out of sobriety into shambles. Will be chasing that high for a long time.
Too many people to tag and thank for an amazing few days with friends from the internet. My wife doesn’t check the Refuge often, but thank you all for showing her why this is such an amazing community to be a part of-- you know it’s special when you’re playing world class golf courses and they are a distant second to the enjoyment of the people you get to play them with.
Look forward to seeing you all again soon.
We drank a lot, In about two hours we went thru 2 handles of bourbon!
What an epic trip! So excited to check Streamsong off my golf-bucket list as well as getting a quick 9 in at WP9 Monday morning before the drive home.
@Big_RanDeer you did so much to make this event happen, standing ovations should shower you for years!
@GaryK8 so great to be your partner you kept us in it Sunday while I climbed out of the mintbucket fog. Your 3 for 2 in the dwindling light on 18 is one of the greatest golf shots I have seen ever!
@diesel fantastic roommate who survived the pigpen like nature I travel in.
All the guis I played with we had some fun rounds.
So great to meet so many fantastic people and to catch up with all you I have meet along this trip we call The Refuge!
From meeting Refuge event first-timer @P-Funk on the shuttle over to Black, to the goodbyes at the bar at 59… what a weekend.
Couldn’t have asked for a better playing partner in @sman, who brought the positivity and his putter. We ham and egged it all day long. Won’t soon forget your driver off the deck on Black 12 (we’re fiiiiine!), and a birdie putt for the ages from the very back of Red 16 green.
We persevered through the dark to finish Black with @Schikolas and @CMUgol4, only to somehow have even more adventure golf with a 6 hole sprint finish on Blue with @igolf619 and @Jetsguy1792. Sunday was practically a stroll in comparison, despite the heat. Great playing with you both, @adodgerfan and @Cyunits.
@Big_RanDeer you put on an epic event. Thank you again for all your hard work. Can’t wait to see everyone at future events where you can take more of my money shooting dice.
Hell yeah @kblewis14, we left soooo many out there rd 2 we would be dangerous.
@andrewf it was a pleasure, sir. Really enjoyed playing with you and watching you dominate Red while walking in putts down the stretch. I didn’t get enough pictures from the weekend, but here is one I grabbed amidst “The Doakening”. That driver was elite all weekend.
Special S/Os to @noles1800 the great roomate and @Big_RanDeer for putting on one hell of a trip. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and hoping for a part 2.
