A thread for the Texas folks

Memorial Park plays very different after the redo and is worth waiting to get on or trying to book as soon as the times become available, played Gus Wortham only after the redo and I was impressed by the elevation changes on the course, the most I’ve seen on any Houston course outside of Wildcat.

My buddies are members at Brae Burn and it is lush when it’s in good shape, springtime.

As of now we’ll be playing most rounds at twin dolphin. Maybe palmilla for one.

Anyone in the ft worth area wanna play tomorrow?

How does Hanse make the new PGA course play firm and fast in blackland clay ? How about a little drainage.

Trying to get out tomorrow flexible on time and location, anyone interested?

Are you still on this package? Would be happy to discuss feedback. Moving to Austin from Dallas this weekend.

Have a spot at Pine Dunes on Thursday noon open. We strapped! Holler?!?

If Austin is able to get the top of the standings (Please stop funding Anchorage even though that would be great) what courses would we be looking at? And obviously 6th needs to happen.

Down!

I cancelled it a few months back. It’s worth it if you’re able to play 10 or more times a month and hit a lot of balls. Howeva, the benefits of membership aren’t great for what you pay. No Locker rooms or storage, no member specific tee times, and they push a lot of golfnow tee times.

Avery Ranch hosts over 20 tournaments a month, so the course is often in use during the day. You can join any of the Member events as a non-member for an additional $10. I like all three of the courses, but you can play them just as easily without locking yourself into a monthly obligation for a year.

Is it just one spot?

Lions and Butler Park.

Butler Park is the Strapped Boys natural environment.

Hancock might be interesting, just because it can be absolutely brutal in dry conditions.

we were talking about this in my regular foursome a few weeks ago. I’d venture to guess

  • Lions
  • Butler
  • Kizer, if the greens are back in shape
  • I’d want to say something in the hills, but i can’t really think of any that are the most “Strapped Friendly”

I tend to prefer Kizer over Clay because Clay becomes kind of forgettable to me, it feels like half is “just hit it out there and figure it out later” holes, and the other half is "you’ve gotta hit this 15 yard wide slot or you’re doomed. Kizer feels like its giving you more rope to hang yourself with + a mix of good “you can only hit it here holes”

(albeit, burn the 17th at Kizer to the ground)

Played Split Rail again last Thursday and conditions get better by the week. It’s a haul, especially for anyone east of 360, but it’s a top 3 public course in the Metroplex hands down IMO.

I also walked Tangle Ridge Sunday afternoon and it was alright. They’ve let the greens go a bit with everything going on, but not bad for $25.

Playing Bear Creek West tomorrow afternoon. Anyone played there recently? Is it in good shape?

I’m fortunate to live right across the street from Split Rail. Hoping to get out there next Thursday or Friday!

That’s a beautiful part of North Texas. And it’s no surprise the Aledo High School golf teams are good, Split Rail challenges every aspect of your game. If you play well you can post a number but if you are off even by a little bit it’s a long day.

Hey everyone! New poster here. Live in the Irving/Las Colinas area. Play most of my rounds at Hackberry Creek but also love getting out to play Indian Creek and Bear Creek.

Love all the NLU content and look forward to all the insights.
