While putting the âRory deadâ bit to bed and joking that he would make Big stand in the corner, someone mentioned he didnât think Rory would come on because their relationship with him has changed. What changed and when? Seems like it wasnât that long ago he was hopping on the Trap Draw to talk Succession. And you have to imagine Rory still consumes #content cause they showed him listening to fried egg/sgs on the Netflix show (I forget which).
I wondered that too, as I donât think NLU did anything particularly unbecoming towards Rory? Maybe itâs a just a case of Rory himself removing himself from all of those relationships to protect his mental health. The SGS stuff from Netflix was a few years back already. Rory has changed a lot in the past year or so.
Was wondering about this as well. Part of me wondered if the âRory deadâ etc stuff was too much and he felt it was shitty towards him, but I feel like that was very much a thing while he was last on? Unless it just got to be too much or there was something in particular, maybe around the US Open last year?
Would be curious to hear what happened, in any event.
My guess is that Rory distanced himself from all the podcasts and media after the backlash to his Liv stuff. So, they might still be friendly, but I think Rory changed it to be more distant to help him be more focused
Best podcast to date. So many good moments. Well done boys!
Yea I bet thatâs true. Researching a bit more, he did fried egg appearance in March 2024, but that was just about northern Ireland golf so he didnât have to field any questions about being dead, Liv or whatnot.
Still dying from the Spiel Schuster âDrops twoâ line
Big ups to @Randy for his best alexbooyah âit was a bit stanceâ.
Got all jacked up again with how hot Neil came into the show last night and giving us the play by play from his on the ground perspective. Awesome show and hell of a week from the squad!
Love all the NLU Pods; keeping me sane in turbulent times. Keep em coming!!! Couple things:
-
I know Ludvig had a triple in 18, but did it take him 30 mins to play that hole? Stacked things up so Rory had to wait 15 mins to tee off on 18. What was up with that?
-
The boys lamented that we didnât get the Rory/Bryson death match we wanted. But I think we did - and Rory blew Brysonâs doors off.
Iâm really happy that Rory won, but shooting 73 to Brysonâs 75 is not what I would call blowing his doors off.
At this stage winnning was all that mattered.
Listened to this again and I feel like based on Randyâs sheepish laughter with âour relationship with Rory isnât the same as what it was,â thereâs gotta be a story
Is it not to do with them âbashingâ (probable in Roryâs mind) his caddy Harry?
Iâm sure post pinehurst and all the criticism he took on the pod for not doing media didnt go over well. Even laughing a bit on the pod of him walking the skyline in NYC after like golfs version of Kendall Roy. Its impossible in sports to cover athletes at that high of a level and maintain friendships unless that athlete is unbothered by all criticism. It did feel like after that open he was done with taking criticism. Just speculating but that would be my guess.
With the âis Rory dead?â bit officially 6-feet-under, is it time the McRib bit evolves into Mr. McIlroy?
This episode rounded out the whole weekend just perfectly. Neilâs on-the-ground account was epic - next best thing to being there. Just to add to the memories Iâd recommend this song quickly penned by an Irish musician about Roryâs final round - some hilarious lyrics!
