[4/27/26] The Savannah Peel, Palmetto Golf Society's 2026 Roost Major

Someone asked about the push cart scene at SGC. They have some, but not many. So if you plan on pushin’, I’d recommend bringing your own. That said, it’s not a tough carry. And carts are included.

If the travel gods are benevolent, I’ll be teeing it up that Friday afternoon at Bacon Park if anyone wants to join.

This is a homecoming for me so this trip has become four night boondoggle.

How is Bacon Park? Might try to play a low key round Sat afternoon. Reviews say it’s getting better but a little rough in spots. Country club conditions not a requirement, but want to make sure it’s at least playable.

Good bones. Usually awful conditions. The city just forced OC to let them take over maintenance. Which should help. Last year they lost 8-9 greens.

That’s a shame. Do you recall which of the three nines, if any, were done by Ross?

How’s Crosswinds these days? Still lights on the par 3 course? Could be a fun entremet between Great Dunes and SGC and we’ll be coming up 95 anyway.

all three 9s. 1 nine is currently unmaintained and in disrepair.

crosswinds is steady and unremarkable. it’s a good value for the price. they don’t light the par 3 anymore unfortunately.

@FusilliJerry65 you’re in for great dunes, as @mbianchi had to drop. you’re in the 12:30 tee time.

Awesome, looking forward to it!

@DrJBone & I have to drop from Great Dunes. I’ve got a family member at the end of their life in Jacksonville that I am going to spend Sunday with before heading up to SGC.

I’ve moved the two off the waitlist into our spots.

Sorry to hear that, @TB3Golf.

Appreciate that. Dementia & Parkinsons are a nasty duo that I hope none of you ever have to witness a family member struggle with.

We’re 2 weeks out from The Savannah Peel! This will be my final official communication ahead of the tournament as I’ll be focusing on day-of logistics and more between now and the big day.

Tee sheet/pairings

Tee sheet/pairings are found here. It will detail your quota, starting hole, and tees: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KFutl6fo2712yEN3dnyWKRwOcVG5MAua/view?usp=sharing

Rules/Format

We will have 1 physical scorecard and rules sheet printed out for every group.
Rules: Savannah Peel Rules Sheet - Google Docs

Scorecards: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15htxVbYeQqVWP_trCQvXsoMw8GqH9_8-/view?usp=sharing

Flights

There are four flights based on handicap index. Handicaps were locked a couple weeks ago to prevent manipulation. Flights are found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rvkWHawa4xxCC7qMwj1HDp8b2pgj9Gd9/view?usp=sharing

Course Notes
To help with course understanding, I’ve compiled a hole-by-hole course guide for everyone. Don’t trust your GPS as several of the holes have been redone and GPS is slow to adopt updates.

Every group will have one of these printed out for reference.

Day of Logistics

  • We tee off at 9am. Be early.
  • I’ve attached a map to this email that shows the best place to park (marked in Red) and where to find the check-in/pro-shop (Blue star).
  • Be sure you map to The Savannah Golf Club, not the confusingly named Savannah Country Club.
  • If you need to change your shoes, don’t do it in the parking lot. Either do it inside your car OR there is a locker room adjacent to the pro shop where you can do that.
  • Please remove your hat indoors. No covers under cover.
  • Range balls are included in your entry fee. The range has about 30 bays. With 70+ players, please be considerate and do a bay-share with someone else while you warm up.
  • Practice areas: In addition to the range, there are two practice putting greens (one by the first tee, one by the pro shop) and a short game area.
  • Golf carts are included in your entry fee. SGC is a VERY walkable golf course, so if you plan on walking, that’s great! You’ll take your cart to the hole you tee off on and use that to get back to the clubhouse after your round.
  • The Pro Shop will be open during the day. It’s a treat that the course is hosting us, so drop in and grab some swag to show your appreciation. The course is in the process of designing a new logo, so whatever you buy is going to be hard to get very, very soon.
  • We will have one of the Halfway Houses open during the day. Liz makes a mean skinny margarita. This is her standard day off work, so bring cash, get some bevvies, and leave a tip.
  • In addition to the Halfway House, we will have 3-4 coolers scattered across the property. The coolers will have water and canned gatorade. We should have enough of both for you to get 2 waters, 2 canned gatorades throughout the day. It’s Savannah, so it could be 95 degrees or 55 degrees. Stay hydrated either way.
  • We will have Pizza delivered to enjoy between the Quota Round and the Horse Race. You’re highly encouraged to stick around and attend the Horse Race! Get a bevvie. Grab your cart. Create some crowd chaos.

Traveling to Savannah

We have folks traveling to the tournament from something like…8 different states. That’s awesome. I’ve compiled a travel guide for out of towners to get the most out of their time here in Slowvannah.

Great Dunes

Great Dunes times (for those that opted into the special Sunday round) are here.

We have 1 spot remaining if anyone wants to jump in. First come, first served.

Sunday Night “Champions” Dinner + Other Meal Coordination

Several folks are going to meet up Sunday night after the Great Dunes round at The Wyld for drinks and grub. It’s one of the best hangs in Savannah. A beautifully situated dockbar on the Herb River.

I will be there at about 6pm. If you’re playing Great Dunes, just head straight there after the round! The Wyld closes at 8:30pm.

For other meal plans, please feel free to coordinate in our refuge thread.
