We had 1 person drop from the Peel who was also playing Great Dunes. If you didn’t sign up for Great Dunes and want in, LMK ASAP!

Me and a couple PTC guys are staying basically next door to Pinkie Masters Sat and Sun night if anyone wants to hang… come thru!

I’m sure I’ll take you up on this.

I’m saying at Andaz on Ellis Square Sunday and Monday night. Count me in.

Also, can someone help me with a ride to Great Dunes? I’ll buy lunch, drinks, whatever.

Scratch that, just rented a car.

The good news is: Savannah is small. Midtown is about 10 minutes to downtown.

If anyone needs a room for Sunday, let me know. I get a discount with Marriott and would be happy to help

I’ll be emailing out this week with some details for the event. Lots of good stuff.

One thing of note: If you plan on the Sunday round at Great Dunes, I will not be handling the pairings (I have enough on my plate with the event). I’ll send out a spreadsheet soon so people can self-select their pairings (I know lots of folks want to get their CLC matches in that date).

Stay tuned.

Any spots left for GD or to get on waitlist? Signed up yesterday and found this thread this AM…

Just emailed this, but sharing here for posterity.

We’re 1 month(ish) out from the Savannah Peel! The course is looking glorious and the weather in Savannah has been delightful, so I know we’re in for a great day.

Here is some essential information for the event. It’s long, but read it. I will email again 1 week before the event reiterating some of this.

Refunds

Deposits have been paid for most everything associated with the event, so we can’t offer refunds at this point in time. If we are able to find a replacement player for you, we will issue a refund at that point in time.

Rules

  • We are teeing off via Shotgun Start at 9am. Be there early.
  • We are playing an 18 hole quota game, which is a GROSS format. You will be playing to 90% of your course handicap. We will lock your handicap at a date prior to the tournament, but won’t release when that date is to prevent #handicapmanipulation.
  • Point values are as follows:
    • Bogeys are 1 point.
    • Pars 2 points.
    • Birdies 4 points.
    • Eagles 8 points.
    • Albatross/Hole-in-ones are 10 points.
  • Pick up your ball once you reach GROSS double bogey. This will help with pace of play.
  • After the quota game has wrapped up, we will have a horse race. We will be playing Gil’s newest work at SGC, holes 7-9. The top 2 players in each flight will qualify for the Horse Race. Flights 1 and 2 will compete against each other for the “Low Capper” NIT Spot in the Horse Race. Flights 3 and 4 will compete against each other for the “High Capper” NIT Spot in the Horse Race.
  • The horse race will be a NET format. The WORST score on each hole will be eliminated from the Horse Race. This means if Player A gets a net birdie, Players B and C get a net par, and Player D gets a net bogey, Player D is eliminated. Player A does not get any special status for getting the lowest score.
  • If there is a tie on that hole for the worst score, we will hold a tiebreaker to determine who gets eliminated.
  • You MUST be a Nest Member OR willing to sign up for the Nest to qualify for the Horse Race.
  • We will use Unknown Golf for scoring. Enter your (and your group’s) GROSS scores and it will handle calculation of Quota score. Please download the application ahead of time.

Pace of Play

SGC averages a pace of about 3 hours 50 minutes. We have the course to ourselves, so let’s do everything we can to keep that pace.

Pairings

  • We will not be taking pairing requests for the event. It’s just too much to handle 70 players asking for certain things.
  • We will release your pairings and tee off hole about 1 week before the event.

Day of Logistics

  • We tee off at 9am.
  • I’ve attached a map to this email that shows the best place to park (marked in Red) and where to find the check-in/pro-shop (Blue star).
  • If you need to change your shoes, don’t do it in the parking lot. Either do it inside your car OR there is a locker room adjacent to the pro shop where you can do that.
  • Range balls are included in your entry fee. The range has about 30 bays. With 70+ players, please be considerate and do a bay-share with someone else while you warm up.
  • Practice areas: In addition to the range, there are two practice putting greens (one by the first tee, one by the pro shop) and a short game area.
  • Golf carts are included in your entry fee. SGC is a VERY walkable golf course, so if you plan on walking, that’s great! You’ll take your cart to the hole you tee off on and use that to get back to the clubhouse after your round.
  • The Pro Shop will be open during the day. It’s a treat that the course is hosting us, so drop in and grab some swag to show your appreciation. The course is in the process of designing a new logo, so whatever you buy is going to be hard to get very, very soon.
  • We will have one of the Halfway Houses open during the day. Liz makes a mean skinny margarita. This is her standard day off work, so bring cash, get some bevvies, and leave a tip.
  • In addition to the Halfway House, we will have 3-4 coolers scattered across the property. The coolers will have water and canned gatorade. We should have enough of both for you to get 2 waters, 2 canned gatorades throughout the day. It’s Savannah, so it could be 95 degrees or 55 degrees. Stay hydrated either way.
  • There are some weird corridors, shared tee boxes, and blind spots on the course. We will have a few signs across the course to help guide you to the next tee or alert you of blind spots to check out before you tee off.
  • We will have Pizza delivered to enjoy between the Quota Round and the Horse Race. You’re highly encouraged to stick around and attend the Horse Race! Get a bevvie. Grab your cart. Create some crowd chaos.

Course Notes

To help with course understanding, I’ve compiled a hole-by-hole course guide for everyone. Don’t trust your GPS as several of the holes have been redone and GPS is slow to adopt updates.

I will print one of these for every pairing to reference the day of the event.

Traveling to Savannah

We have folks traveling to the tournament from something like…8 different states. That’s awesome. I’ve compiled a travel guide for out of towners to get the most out of their time here in Slowvannah: Travel Guide to Savannah - Google Docs

Great Dunes

We had 36 players (½ of the field!) sign up for a Sunday Round at Great Dunes. We have two people waitlisted, as well. I will not be handling pairings for Great Dunes as I have enough shit to coordinate otherwise. I’ve created this sheet to let folks self-select their pairings and times for GD.

Raffle

We have officially eclipsed $3000 raised for Carolina Adaptive Golf and Savannah First Tee!

AWESOME Stuff, folks! I put a ton of time into the events I host because it’s about far more than golf for me. Historically, this sport has been exclusionary in the US. But, seeing groups like ours work together to do things inclusive of people with different backgrounds, abilities, and more makes it well worth the time. Proud of this group for rising to the occasion.

We have more raffle stuff coming in every day, so if you want to get more raffle tickets, please send me $10/ticket via Venmo (@heathwblack) or Paypal (heath@heathwblack.com).

We will announce Raffle winners the same time we release the Tee Sheet. Your raffle items will be included with your tee gifts when you check-in.

Put everyone in a randomizer and get to know some new people would be my vote

Only reason I didn’t do that for GD is because some people need to play their CLC Matches and didn’t want to jostle with it.

I know we’ll go over rules day of, but are we still doing the traditional “it’s all lateral” or playing full rules?

Oh, yeah, I left that out.

EVERYTHING IS LATERAL. OB on the range? Lateral. Hit it off property? Lateral.

I’ll spell it out more when i print out rules sheet

Is everyone choosing their tee box or we all playing from (insert tee name here) tees?

The will be assigned by flight and communicated when pairings are released.

@Mramer33 do you want to move to 1pm with me? Or do you need to stay at 1:20?

@Slainte got my tee time all dialed and I haven’t seen him in awhile so I would prefer to play with him, not sure if he is planning to move earlier but I can work with whatever time makes sense.
