And Bryson had found massive success in life already whereas Wyndham had put in a lot of work to get out of the trenches in recent time relative to his standout season
Iâm Kinda out on comparing tragedies dawg
Unless itâs 9/11 jokes. I love those
This
But also this
Shoot
⌠and you know, the putt on the last, it was a really tricky putt. And I was very aware of where Bryson was off the tee. I knew I had to hit it really soft.
If the one back didnât matter, I would have hit it firmer. But because I was sort of in two minds, I didnât know whether Bryson was going to make a par or not, it was one of those ones where I had to make sure that if the putt didnât go in, that it wasnât going ten feet by which it easily could have.
Sounds to me like he wasnât focused on making sure he won and was playing for at worst a tie instead.
I guess we should listen to you, considering your strong match play record and all.
Thatâs the beauty of this. We both read the same statement from Rory and we both still see it a different way. He was of two minds. He wasnât committed.
I definitely see where youâre coming from and understand why you think the putt was fine though. Truly not trying to be combative here.
Yeah it would have been interesting to see what he would have done if he was in that final group. What shouldnât be missed is he certainly saw where Byrsons drive ended up
I have even less respect for Roryâs decisionmaking and putter now!
I did love the fact that he explained the course layout playing a role in how much he was paying attention to Bryson and where he was.
I mean, you havenât seen @kmcswain here in a while, have you?
âIt wasnât obvious Bryson was going to make parâ in Roryâs mind translated to, âI better make sure I still have a chance to tieâ instead of, âHey this putt is to win the championship, letâs make sure weâre committed.â
This is textbook âdoesnât have that dog in himâ thinking.
Gonna start calling Rory âLittle Pupperâ
I mean - I think this is the correct thinking even though it didnât work out for him. There was like a 2% chance Bryson wins outright once he put it in that bunker 60 yards short of the hole. Rory had a difficult putt and allowing Bryson to bogie and still win outright is about the worst thing Rory can do. Plus, Rory was hitting putts relatively defensively all week - why change that up on the last hole when it had evidently been working based on his tie for the lead at that point.
There is no way Rory wasnât committed to making that putt with the speed he chose based on the situation. I think you are grossly oversimplifying a situation that had layers.
But it had just stopped working on 16 when he missed the 2â5" putt!
I dunno man. Iâm reading this part of the quote to be a pretty obvious reading of, âI couldnât make up my mindâ aka wasnât committed to which path he wanted to take on the putt.
Iâll back away from this conversation now though because itâs clear weâre going to see it differently and thatâs okay.
No it isnât. I want the discourse
I mean, a short downhill left to right slider for a right handed player might be the scariest putt in the game. Itâs a putt thatâs very easy to miss low, especially if you are concerned with running it well by.
counterpoint, if Rory made the putt no one would have ever mentioned itâs difficulty.
