2025 Amateur Tournaments - Tis the Season

I will keep an eye on the sheet so I don’t fuck anyone over. It’s a month out and there are still 42 spots left, so I should be safe!

To be VERY clear I’m upset about the WD - not the 93 - shit happens

All about process baby. Commit to that and let the chips fall where they may. Or don’t commit and shoot 99 like I did. Up to you.

This annoys the hell out of me. The number of times I saw this kinda shit happen in events I was playing without a lot of recourse was too high. Thankfully(?), I’m a new dad and have little to no expectations of playing much tournament golf this year while I figure out life with a new kid.

what event?

Twin Cities Championship at Meadowbrook and Baker.

I was so annoyed. Showed up, waited around literally all day 6:15am-2:30pm. Bummed I didn’t get in but was over it. Then seeing him WD after a bad round had me furious, so disrespectful to the people who were on the waitlist.

He should be your nemesis

Getting pretty excited/nervous for a 3-day stroke play tournament at the cross-town “rival” club this weekend. Really hope I don’t have to write down a 9 on the first hole like I did last year. I truly could not even feel my face by the time the ball finally hit the cup. Worst part was the next week when I made it back to my club and the pro walked out of the shop as I was walking up and said “A nine?! What the hell happened?”

Fucking Golf Genius.

A bogey stinks, a double hurts, a triple is deflating, but an 8 or 9? At a certain point sometimes you just have to have a laugh lol

Play well!

How about an 8 and a 9 two holes apart from each other? :joy:

Been there, that’s absolutely a laugh about it territory.

Sir, I just call that a standard round of golf.

Got left this year:
Club Match play champ
Mem guest (only net event I’ll list lol)
US Mid Am qualifying
US 4 ball qualifying
Club Champ
2 man gross tourney (2 rds best ball, 1 true alt shot)
And potentially a ryder cup type event if I make the team (very iffy)

Pumped for all of that, plus a couple of other net events, big one being a college friend ryder cup trip.

Oh hey tournament thread, been a few years since I’ve been able to even look at thought about everything that goes on in here.

And now @xthrubyx is posting?

We might be back in. I’ll decide here in an hour or so when I can post again.

I saw a like from you and almost jumped out of my chair. See you in an hour. Come up and play in the Red River Am next year.

That goes for everyone else, too!

(I do all the media for this. Come play. @holeout has been telling me he is going to for a couple years, but has yet to grace us with his presence)

To echo this, the first year I entered our club qualifier, I had the highest handicap (something like 7.8 at the time) of all the participants and ended up beating over half the field and almost making it into the championship flight. People throw up on themselves all the time and generally get tight. One of the guys in the tourney shot like 92-99 and he was a single digit handicap.

Only way to get better is to actually do it.

This is my mantra, as a higher handicap sign up for this type of stuff. Why would I get any better at it sitting around complaining that I am not good enough to do it? Might as well light some money on fire and get in the ring. Fuck it. I shot 77 my first ever competitive round and I thought I might float home I was so stoked. Then I got to experience the other side the next day. But the nerves and excitement kick ass and I want to chase that feeling.

Well, in the tournament in question I started bogey, double, triple and was in a hazard on the third hole that I didn’t know existed in the 5 years being a member. I did right the ship and shot even on the back 9 for an 82 in the first round but the point stands and i played better the next round and the next year, etc.
