I say skip Klein, Carriage Greens is SUUUUPER gimmicky and pretty bad, but in a bad good way. Village Links is good for match play, not sure when they punch though.
I’m fine with whatever/where ever fits.
@Setwilli feel free to chime in if you want to fill a group.
Slipped my mind to post this after our round by @levnaginsky and I played our first match of the pod out at Highlands of Elgin on Sunday. We both certainly weren’t rocking our A games and gave ourselves no help getting off the tee. In the end I took the match 3&2, was a great day on the course regardless and looking forward to us hopefully having a better showing next time out with @BigBird.
Still not 100% sure how the scoring works, but in a friendly match with @kmcswain,
Who I like to call normal pants McSwain, at Big Run, as refereed by @Setwilli , I took the front nine and overall match, but we halved the back nine. I went out with eight straight pars, losing the seventh on nearly @kmcswain’s second ace of the year. But. the back nine was hard fought, and Kev’s purchase of beers for the back nine worked out well in his favor. Fun was had by all, except for the foursome that made the last five holes a bit of a slog.
In a mid cap bout at Sunset Valley featuring trees that weren’t 90% air and long putts dropping at rates Soly would call unsustainable, I took down @treeputttim 2 up after being AS after 9. @djheadley and I also won the correct hand best ball for all the lefties out there
So you get 1 point for winning the front, 2 points for winning the Match, and half a point for the back, earning you 3.5 total points.
I empathize with @kmcswain as I was only able to eek out half a point myself today. Never count @bendersgame out. A true grinder, who hit a ton of great recovery shots today and came from behind multiple times to win the day.
@djheadley and I were also out at Sunset Valley yesterday. In what can only be described as a roller coaster round I went up big on the front, courtesy of the handicap system, some quality lag putting and Danny not having his best stuff yet. He flipped the script at the turn battling back to 1 down coming off 12 green. I managed to tie his par (via a stroke) on 13 to stop the bleeding. After some tee shots we would like to forget on 14, my bogey beat his double in true pillowfight fashion. We eventually halved the back 9 when I caught a luck break with a kick on 18. For all the rain it had gotten it was truly beautiful out there, except for the incredibly slow 4some ahead of us that decided to play a walkers scramble for reasons.
I will also confirm that the lefties beat me and @treeputttim. Really not sure what happened, all the data pointed to us being a good 4 ball team.
A great match and I’m just glad I could take the full 18 match to hole 16. Squeaked out a 1/2 point. Things aren’t looking great as I now have to play @Ballgame and beat him in order to advance.
This weekend can work for me, happy to accommodate saturday or sunday. I am holding a sat am tee time currently but can cancel for free so now worries.
Happy to fill a sub spot somewhere (Pool 4, or the blank spot I see in Pool 7). I’m out of form from the move and job transition eating up tons of time, so I can’t guarantee it will be a beneficial addition to a team, but will objectively be an addition. I have some time on a few weekday afternoons. This weekend is shot but I can be back in action next week.
Gonna have you in Pool 7, just because that’s where the discussion started, and then hopefully @rmbartell is taking the open spot in Pool 4 and we are good on subs for now.
Perfect. I’m in. Happy to schedule some matches here in the next few weeks. Working with @golfscout to schedule one. Need to reach out to @Xlink to schedule another sometime in early Nov. Look forward to being a part of things.
@Ballgame and I played an incredibly enjoyable match today at Sunset Valley. While we both started -1 thru 2, I was up two. I got it to 3 up heading to 7. Teddy won the next three with some absolute bombs off the tee to halve the front. He took the first two on the back and things were looking dire. I was able to battle back and square it on 15. On 16 I unleashed a hell of a drive…dead into the pond. But I recovered and a close chip helped me with the hole. Teddy squared it up on the par 5 17, I believe going driver/8 iron to pin high en route to a birdie. On 18 he ended up in trees to the right, that usually don’t come into play from the back tees and I recovered from a mishit approach to make a 4 footer for the back and the match.
I would also like to note that I enjoyed my best driving round this season and Teddy’s wife outdrove me on several holes. Something is in their apartment’s water!
@BigBird and I played our match today at Ravines with @andrewf and @WillyK accompanying. The big right miss was out early and often with Mac jumping out to a 4-up lead on the front. Was able to pull one back to close the front nine down three. Back nine was able to put a few holes together but fell short on the round getting closed out one down overall.
Great day on the course, weather was awesome and the colors were starting to pop! Looking forward to picking things up in the spring for match play.
