2024 Refuge Roosts: Local Clubs & Club Championship Outline

Y’all should know the public 9-holer next to Swope is sneaky good, very very chill vibe and an easy walk. Super cheap twilight as well.

Dumb question:

Who are the Roosts going to KC? Not sure I ever saw a full roster of participants.

Plus Ohio Against The World.

RACDG Europe should be there - but getting a team to pay $2000 for a weekend in KC was a tough sell

We’ve heard you loud and clear on that front, W.

I am full of hope that next year we can be in attendance, and the roosts go from strength to strength.

I’ll have the lineup + photos out soon

in all fairness and absolute unbiased input, I had thought a place like Stevens Park in Dallas, or say Ravisloe in Chicago woulda been the venue, because:
– public course with history and good vibes
– in a city with direct flights from most places in North America
– in a city with direct international flights
– in a city with oodles of entertainment and food options

I’m proud of swope and all the work that’s gone into BCN, both places are a blast to play, they’re in good condition, KC has a vibrant culture scene with tasty tasty food, fun sites and amazing beer and cocktails… but they’ve not been a transpo hub since TWA crashed in the mid 80s.

Getting in and outta here sucks, and adds an extra flight for most people. Trust me I’ve had to use this airport for the better part of 20+ years.

We doing this again?

Just a heads up if you wanted an additional round at Swope, the online rate was almost half of the rack rate paying at the course.

Also #9 at Swope was one of the coolest old school par 5’s I’ve ever played.

Having the entire course to ourselves is pretty sick. Is anyone else hoping/planning to walk one or both Saturday rounds? I wonder if we can get walkers grouped together (or if that’s even a good idea…?). And since it’s a shotgun start with 10ish groups, it might be nice if nobody had to start on a par three.

Please take these as academic free flowing ideas, not big brain bossy pants demands.

Come on Mark! This is just year one homie!

I also couldn’t disagree more about getting in and out of KC sucking. Its the easiest airport to travel in and out of. 20 minutes from the hotel folks are staying in. Can arrive 45 mins before take-off and get your bags on the plane. It’s just not great to hang out and wait in. If you happen to live in a hub city, you will likely have a direct. If you don’t, well that is pretty normal to need to connect.

I’m planning on walking for sure.

Working on all this stuff now. Think if people want to walk, they are more than welcome. Without knowing who plans to walk before we get there makes grouping walkers together tough. Its a long weekend, so I plan to ride (as BCN doesn’t have carts - lol) but understand some will want to walk at least once. I do not believe Swope has push carts but I do have a Walker Trolley if anyone really wants to borrow it.

We aren’t quite sure on the shotgun yet. Want to make this one a little different/unique, so might do tee times for the morning wave. Time will tell!
