2024 PGA Championship - Valhalla & Louisville Jail

What’s he look like? Skinny and old? Looks pretty fit for a almost 53 year old. Losing weight makes people look older at that age, brings out the wrinkles.

Halfway between Rory’s chinos and Collin’s chinos is the perfect cut for a chino.

Collin is having to throw back a couple vodka sodas to deal with Phil talking about red wine and coffee being the foundation of his “health”

The shorthand best not to win a major rankings I post before every major. Factors in current OWGR, peak OWGR, majors played, and major top 10’s. Parentheses is where they ranked before the Masters.

  1. Patrick Cantlay (1)
  2. Xander Schauffele (2)
  3. Matt Kuchar (3)
  4. Tyrrell Hatton (4)
  5. Tony Finau (5)
  6. Max Homa (7)
  7. Viktor Hovland (8)
  8. Tommy Fleetwood (10)
  9. Will Zalatoris (9)
  10. Rickie Fowler (NR)

Billy Horschel dropped from 6 to out of the top 10.

I will forever think it’s weird and stupid that US players get a city and state to represent where they are from while other countries only get just the country name. Is there an honest reason why you can’t name the city within the country they’re from?

What does the British open do for the US players? And does it name the city for the non-US folks

I had a blast yesterday (Tuesday) with my dad at Oak Hill. I know Soly was out there documenting some stuff he saw and learned, here’s a few takes from myself.

Oak Hill is a gem of a course. It’s not golf’s Lambeau or Wrigley Field, not even a Pebble Beach, but it truly is worthy of a major championship.

After seeing the course, I went home and watched some video on the redesign, and they nailed it. The bunkering is phenomenal—golfers DO NOT want to go in any of them, they’re a true hazard, like a bunker should be.

Walking the course, you can get lost in the amazing oak trees around the course. Just monsters, yet, there isn’t too many of them to seem annoying. There are places on the course you can go and watch 4-6 holes at once—DM me if you want some tips but I am not just giving them out. Then, if you want, you can plop yourself under a big ol tree and chill if you want.

There’s a lot of talk about the rough, but honestly, it’s not that deep. It’s just what the rough is around Upstate New York golf this time of year. Doesn’t matter how low you cut some of it, there’s always a chance your ball will land in the rough and settle deep inside it. This time of year, you will not get too many fliers. Just a lot of grass snagging the club head and closing it shut—Tony Finau addressed this in his presser yesterday and said he tries to get steeper on the ball to prevent that. Going to try that in my own game.

Holes 14, 15 and 18 will be huge factors in the outcome of the tournament. Players who play those well, will be in contention. 16 and 17 are meh holes, but 18 is one of the best closing holes there is—demanding tee shot (can’t go right), demanding approach shot and the green is basically on a side hill, sloped back to front. Execution is a must.

Yesterday, the Par 5, 13th Hole was playing 623 yards into a 25-30 mph wind. My father and I just laughed at how brutal that was. Weather forecast isn’t calling for those kind of winds all week.

The only complaint I have about the course is there’s in-course out of bounds on No. 7 tee box into No. 6 fairway. I think in-course OB is a travesty. I was gutted when I saw the warning sign on No. 7 tee box.

Spectator tips: If you’re on the grounds, I did appreciate the all-inclusive snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and sandwiches (chicken sandwich was solid). I remember going to the PGA at Bethpage and the lines for food, water and beer were so long and brutal. ZERO yesterday. Now, it was a practice round, but it was seamless. (JUST MAKE SURE THEY DON’T CHARGE YOU FOR FOOD. We got got once. Ouch.)

If you plan on drinking beer, try to sneak in a koozie. You probably won’t have anything that will cover a 25oz, $17 beer, but it will help keep it colder longer. 16oz Mich Ultras are $14.00. Seems like an aggressive up sell, but we snagged a few. There is a hard seltzer options too (Bud Light).

Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll be back Saturday! Can’t wait!

I believe the UKBOPBHMTK doesn’t include a location, they just say “Now on the tee, Tiger Woods.”

I always thought it was, “Now on the tee, from USA, Tiger Woods.”
