Preferred title is ‘Assistant to the Regional Specialist of Hospitality.’

Aka the ARSh.

I edited my food truck post just a bit for clarity … cost for golf + rooms will be in-line with years past. The food truck specifically will add $100-$125 per person (but again, netted out against not paying for the burger buffet).

I’m heading up to play Pine Dunes on Thursday. We’re playing Thursday-Saturday so it’ll be a good chance to get some more practice on the course.

That being said, I’m having a baby in mid-late January so someone text me when this signup sheet goes live. I don’t want to miss it.

Comfortably Numb is an interesting song choice. Is she actively encouraging the use of recreational drugs at the Double Eagle Lodge?

Given the amount of weed my group (minus me, wine only for your boy) was smoking this weekend, I’d say they probably don’t care.

Course was great. It was really interesting to see it in the winter. Balls didn’t roll as far, we got rained on all day Friday, but the greens were very fast. My team ended up winning our tournament 14.5 - 13.5. I got us the final point by beating a guy 3&2 in singles that should have been an easy win for them. Feels good to finally win one out there.

We get a food truck secured???

do we have any estimations on total cost per person… gonna need to start selling this to my wife soon

Golf will be ~$400-$425. That includes a practice round on Friday that we can’t carve out, it’s a package. It might be less than this, but prices have gone up since Covid so let’s be conservative.
Lodging will be ~$200.
Food will be ~$100.
Registration fee will be $50 (prize fund, charitable donation minimum)
Booze will the amount that you make bad decisions about, lol.

Gentlemen (and ladies) … START YOUR ENGINES.

Myself and the other two captains @CARAID and @Insulin_And_Bogeys would like to pre-announce registration for the 2023 Texas Cup (still) at Pine Dunes. Registration will open as close to 9pm central standard time on Thursday, Feb 9th as I can get.

This years tournament will be May 5th through the 7th. Practice rounds have been arranged for Friday afternoon, with foursomes and greensomes (basically alt-shot) on Saturday, and then singles Sunday morning.

We’ve got a few things up our sleeve to +1 the even this year; @SaveMuny is working on a catering solution to keep us from having to use the shitty grill, and to up-level the food. The roosts exercise over the last two years has upped all of our merch game, so some good ideas there, and we’re so much better organized for games designed to raise money for charity.

The process will be as follows:

  1. I’ll post a link to a spreadsheet here. I’m like 87% sure that it’s open for editing, but this is the refuge so who knows.
  2. There are 10 or 11 open spots for Austin/SA, Houston, and Dallas (the captains, plus a few special guests are already on the list).
  3. You’ll put your name on the tab for the city you represent.
  4. If there are no more open spots 1-12, then put your name on the next available spot on the waitlist.
  5. For those with spots 1-12, you’ll have 48 hours to pay a $100 deposit to me via venmo. Of this deposit
    • $50 will go against your housing bill (@WhineyCracker52 from Dallas has graciously put down his card to hold the rooms, so we’re going to try and defray his holding costs a bit). We’ll bill you for the remainder of the housing costs as we get closer and need to confirm final room assignments
    • $50 will go towards prizes and the charitable donation. We keep prizes and swag pretty minimal for Texas Cup, as this is the primary south-texas fundraiser for the year. We’ll publish a full accounting of where the money goes, as well.
  6. Each captain will be responsible for managing the waitlist for their city. If someone moves from the waitlist to the final list, that person will pay their $100 to the person they’re replacing.
  7. We’ll publish a room availability list relatively soon; be thinking about who you’d like to room with (talk with them directly). We’ll put up a spreadsheet and folks will sign themselves up for rooms, we’re not playing den mother here.
    • There are two condo types at PD
      • a two-bedroom condo that sleeps 4; two full beds in a room, a full bed in another room, and a futon.
      • a one-bedroom condo with two full beds
    • If you know that you can tolerate crashing in the same room with someone, maybe plan on grabbing one of the two-bed-one-room spots, etc.

I would like to say something here for us all to keep in mind. The interest for this event is through the roof; it’s a great time. However, our capacity for participants is limited to 36 (the captains have an open thread about possibly expanding the field size next year, but that’s very tbd). Some folks are going to miss out, and that sucks. I want to strongly encourage everyone to follow the TC way over the next few months as this tournament comes to pass. The captains are going to have hard decisions; in years past, we’ve had people sign up within 10 seconds of each other from the same city, which gave that city 13 players, and we had to tell one of them he had to back out (even though his name was on the sheet). We’ve had people need room changes at the last minute. We’ve had people ask to play with certain people, and been unable to accomodate. The rooms are ‘minimalistic’ to say the least, and more than a few folks are going to have to sleep on a futon. It’s all part of the Pine Dunes charm (trust me, the futon is better than Jodi’s instagram account, and WAY better than the fucking logo).

Just know that your captains are working to make this a fun event, and are also regular people with day jobs who are doing the best they can. Your patience and understanding is massively appreciated.

On the charity angle, PLEASE be on the lookout for items you can donate to the pre-event raffle. They don’t necessarily have to be golf-related, and they don’t necessarily have to be massive items. I’ll probably be coordinating the raffle again this year, so as you think of items you could donate, get donated from local businesses, or buy yourself and then add to the list, shoot me a note.

@Jdonelson was a date released or will that come with the spreadsheet?

I thought I put it up-thread, but good call, I’ll add to that announcement.

Date is May 5th-7th. Interestingly enough, they’re punching the greens AFTER we leave on Sunday, so we’re going to get the best possible spring conditions. We may even slip the super a c-note to roll 'em twice Sunday morning.
