An absolutely great listen. Neil had the boys in the palm of his hand, they were up and down like a :roller_coaster:. Great stuff!

Neil is legitimately one of the best story tellers I’ve ever listened to. Awesome stuff.

Just incredible listening to Neil describe his putts

Great listen, per usual. But as someone who’s crossed over to the “old” side, I notice Neil has a classic young golfer’s blind spot — obsessing over the full swing while undervaluing the scoring zone.

I grew up playing with old guys who couldn’t hit it far but would empty your wallet from 100 yards in. I saw it, but I didn’t change my approach until distance started leaving me and the ego had no choice but to follow. Funny how that works. My advise, don’t wait. Commit to short game improvement sooner. Two things that will dramatically increase enjoyment on the golf course… improved short game and lower expectations! IMHO.

No google maps this time (I’m only through the first hole) is a bummer, but appreciate they probably just wanted to get it out asap

I loved how pumped Neil was despite blowing past his goal score. I forget if it was DJ or Randy, but I agree that’s probably in some way a better feeling than shooting 78 and being like “that was easy”.

Kind of like how if you were ever insane enough to let Mike Tyson punch you. You want it to hurt.

hilarious.

That was such a great listen. Was hanging on every hole. Just couldn’t make any putts! Sounds like they need to get Francisco’s caddie on the pod sometime. That dude probably has some capital S stories

Neil lived in Brooklyn until recently and courses in the northeast are just opening up post winter. also he’s got 2 kids.

I can tell you personally that under those circumstances it’s borderline impossible to do any short game practice. There are sims around so full swings are easy to come by, but from where he was (and I am) in Brooklyn, you’re driving an hour out and at least an hour back if you want to hit anything off of grass.

Fantastic episode! What a great storyteller, was hanging on every word. Definitely have to watch this one on YouTube just to see Big Randy’s reactions. Priceless. Top 3 episodes of all time, good stuff Neil!

I also wonder how much this has to do with playing a bucket list course and just wanting to actually experience the holes as they were intended vs being off the planet and not playing the course + being in butt hurt nation.

Just took my second trip to Bandon and I really didn’t score that much better than 4 years ago, but I’m a much better golfer now than previously that my golf enjoyment was off the charts higher.
