Soly catches up with Justin Thomas to mainly talk all things 2025 Ryder Cup and the lessons learned from the defeat at Bethpage. But before their Ryder Cup chat, we hear from JT on his recovery from recent surgery and his career in team golf. They close their discussion with thoughts on the future of the PGA Tour under the new leadership of Brian Rolapp and on potential schedule changes in 2027.
Soly tries to not blame golf skill on becoming a parent: impossible challenge
I haven’t given it a listen yet but if JT is really whining about the USGA not making the greens fast enough for the US team my PamperedFucksMeter is ringing pretty loudly.
Not sure if you’ve heard this yet, but he’s a dad.
Team Europe - years worth of data and analytics goes into the pairings and finding guys who are statistically a good match and getting them comfortable playing with each other months in advance
Team USA - player driving home after a team dinner a month out from the event thinks “this guy uses a similar ball as me why don’t we play alternate shot together”
Really begs the question about what if without these scout consulting guys were doing
And it seemed like all of that went right over his head.
When he said the thing about “if that’s worth a quarter of a shot…” It’s like the saying about “a million here, a million there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money.” “A quarter shot here, a half shot there, pretty soon you’re talking about losing almost every Ryder Cup you play.”
Europe is kicking their asses! But, no… keep doing what you’re doing, U.S. You’ll make more putts some day. Maybe. ![]()
They were arguing having conversations with JT about how he should figure out how to hit specific tee shots, trying to convince him to actually fucking practice hit 12 balls off a few tees.
And I actually ended up hitting good tee shots on those holes every day
Was some real icing on the cake to “maybe the data should matter”.
Just rewatched all of the Full Swing seasons. I don’t think this is a hot take or anything, but it solidified what we all know: there’s no universe in which Keegan is 2025 Captain without Full Swing capturing his 2023 journey. Right?
Great guy, great player. But imagine nobody saw that phone call from Zach and Keegan’s (very grown-up) reaction to being snubbed. Is he even in the 2025 Captain conversation?? Zero percent chance.
I like that this angle allows me to blame Zatch for 2 Ryder Cup failures.
