1000: We Never Got This Far In Our Dreams

Favorite pod: Another vote for the Tiger history one. I know it’s technically on the TD but it’s so insane and gets a listen every year

Also favorite bit of advice was Neil talking about how nobody knows what they’re doing, I think it was in reference to going on an ESPN live and it being organised chaos. Just ship it!

Just started watching this. Is it just me or were the quick “edits” in the video a major distraction to anyone else? Not sure if that’s a youtube thing or an editing thing where it removes a split second of silence in the audio.

I’m not quite sure how to explain it without someone seeing it for themselves. Like those tik toks that are full of quick “jumps” during pauses when someone is talking.

For some reason, this moment has stuck with me as one of the funniest lines. I don’t remember the exact episode but the guys talked about Hideki having a neck and back injury and @djpie quickly jumped in and said something like “gosh let’s hope it stops there”. Even though I don’t have the exact quote, it still makes me laugh

Does anyone else remember a time when Soly was saying something about Greg Norman and (I think) DJ interjected at just right the moment with a third-leg Greg dick joke reference? I just remember them laughing and me laughing forever.

What a listen, oh the nostalgia!

Laughed again at so many of the clips; Elk on Monty is top tier.

What struck me most was thinking about how much more organised things got over time. I remember the days of never knowing what was coming to a great rhythm to output now. It actually structures my week; recap pod etc.

Also, like @MerchCzar forever grateful to @Randy for insisting on an agenda. It seems to give everyone the best chance to contribute in their own way, encourages well-thought through takes (even if wrong!) and, ironically, better spontaneous moments. As a listener, it makes me feel they are also value my time, compared to other podcasts/Youtube where there is no structure, people continually talk over each other and they miss the key things.

Funniest moment - for me it’s the Blockie Sunday recap completely overshadowing Brooksie’s FIFTH major title. The hole-in-one, the up-and-down, knowing Big was just seething the whole time
Favorite guest - recency bias but Joe Mayo. Still don’t know if it was the best thing or worst thing for my golf game
Favorite bit - Neil falling for the “How many majors will this player win” every single time
Prediction - someone said it but just how early these guys were on the Saudi golf takeover tour

it really stinks that Rahm has evaporated from existence and this bit died with it. so good.

technically on the trap draw. with @Tron taking Scottie with the #2 overall pick. One of his earliest on-pod moments citing Scottie

As a kid playing golf in the late 90s/early 2000s, the CPG stuff hit hard

I wonder if he’s still running around not putting deals together.

This reminds me of another episode they did, the Oral History episode. A story in that episode they also mentioned in this episode was when Neil showed up for the LPGA Google hangout or something at the Google office and he was sweating profusely and completely misunderstood the context of the call and why he was on. Kills me every time. Love Neil man.

DJ’s subtle off speed pitches always make me chuckle.

Specifically one I’ve added to my vernacular is the “and also with you” line in response to basically anyone saying something like “happy masters week” or whatever.

The DJism I find myself using most often is “Elizabeth Warren ball”. If those start showing up, it’s gonna be a long day.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 1000 episodes and looking back on past pods. It is weird how certain episodes and moments are like music in brain in that I associate those episodes/moments with certain moments in my life. I specifically remember where I was and what I was doing to the day for some of the specific moments. Thankful for the NLU Pod and the past 9 years of listening. Cheers

Glad the Trevino episode got a shout. Not just one of the best interviews they’ve done, but one of my personal favorites as well

I really wish we could’ve gotten a couple of clips of this from last years. The pure glee in @Randy’s voice as he mentioned guys who would not win was a favorite tradition of mine - especially in the slightly less serious days of 2018-2021 or so.

Also, another Randy line that always kills me was one random pod when he and Soly were previewing the Ryder Cup team or something mid-season, and Soly said the usual bit about “Look, no one cares about the Ryder Cup more than me, but…” and Randy quickly parachutes in with “Soly, you’re right - literally no one cares about the Ryder Cup more than you.”

Just killed me and I still think about that line every time Soly talks RC.
