Jim is an absolute legend and might be the biggest Dog
So whatās the ruling in that case? Where the hazard is curved such that you canāt drop āno nearer the holeā, like this example, where the ball rolls off the back of the green into a hazard? Where do you drop?
A little connect the dots here will get you the answer. Hint: These arenāt OTR.
If thereās nowhere to drop within two club lengths thatās not nearer the hole then you need to use one of the other relief options.
I want to preface all of this by saying it was clearly a friendly game and Iāve violated the no nearer the hole rule on many occasions for pace of play. I was just trying to give some shit and was pulling for Furyk. Iām not trying to be that guy (even though I used the exact hole in question).
Since the question came up you can play it in the penalty area (not an option here) or the following with a stroke penalty:
-
Stroke and distance - āThe player may play the original ball or another ball from where the previous stroke was madeā
-
Back-on-the-line relief - "The player may drop the original ball or another ball in a relief area that is based on a reference line going straight back from the hole through the estimated point where the original ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area
-
Lateral relief - lots to describe 2 club lengths no nearer the hole. (not an option here)
Below is an image of 18 at Jax Beach that shows the rear water likely doesnāt allow the two club length option as dropping on land means in the circle around the pin closer to the hole. So basically get to 1) take stroke and distance back to where they originally hit from or 2) drop within one club length of the line that includes the hole and where the ball entered the penalty area.
Courses will often utilize local rules for drop zones as well.
Guys, you donāt know the angle for sure. If itās red, it could easily be 100% kosher to drop farther from the pin right where they dropped, as long as the angles work out. And you donāt know from a course map or google maps. Thereās not reason to go all Internet-Columbo on this.

Whatās the everyday office equivalent of @MerchCzar/Fluff letting the bag fall? Iām going with any participation in a reply all response to a corporate wide email.
Tuna salad for lunch in the cubes?
Going to the bathroom on a conference call without muting yourself.
Microwaving fish
yeah, the scramble format is good if youāve got a couple mid digit guys, or one low one highā¦but if those two canāt beat Furyk on their home course where they play a scramble? Best ball would likely raised the pucker factor a little more for them both.
Enjoyable, as always, and yes, @Tron your short game is vastly improved. You outplayed Soly on this day. Canāt wait to see you guys again.
A few criticized the camera work from the landing area on fairways and greens, but I actually thought it was funny. By halfway through I was convinced the gang left it in in some some of ironic way. My favorite was the ball landing on the green and the camera taking a few seconds to pan to the right after it had stopped.
I would think itās more the sender triggering a reply all frenzy by not using BCC.
The saying was a laying bag never falls.
A BCC email never has a Reply All?
Randy keeps getting better and better at this (watch your back, Nantz) but this monologue was such fire i was howling for 2 minutes straight. GET EM
Agreed!
Also, the @djpie production quality keeps going up. High quality B-roll was appreciated! These drone cameras are amazing.
Yeah it was layered in really well. Think the 9 hole match is just a perfect length to land at an ~hour episode and have a ton of nice shots and content interspersed. Thought this was the best paced piece of content yet and honestly really enjoyed the camera work - the wonky camera turn post shot and pull aways are so fun
Feel like max 10000% needs to make his wwog debut
They filmed something recently I saw somewhere but not sure what the content was for.
