Why wouldn’t you?
But seriously, I find it to be the most social individual sport.
My game belongs to no one but me. But still I can share it with anyone with a tee time.
If I can’t play, I can read about it, build a club, shine my shoes, organize my bag, watch old tournaments and still feel some simple joy.
I can be competitive or just have a good time, this is determined by me and me alone.
It’s perfect and I’m lucky to know it.
Because of the friends you make along the way.
Happy thanksgiving to all.

So many reasons. I didn’t really take the game up seriously until I finished playing high school baseball my senior year. Funny enough, I tried out for the golf team that year in the having played very, very little but knowing I had a little ability and figured I could make the team… didn’t make it by a mile and that drove me to want to play and get better.
I think getting a somewhat late start to the game was the best thing that could have happened for me because of how much I love every aspect about it. You learn about yourself, other people, how you respond to your own mistakes, it is all on you to execute shots and see what you’re made of.
Freedom is the word that comes to mind when I’m on the course, I just drop everything going on in my own little world at the moment and just try to play as best as I can and enjoy the views along the way. Traveling to some amazing places these past 3-4 years has broadened my love of the game, meeting folks who I call friends, golf is just simply the best.
I love this game so much. She often breaks my heart and crushes my soul. I’m a glutton for punishment. But she brings out the best in me. She never lets me give up. Always calls me back. She’s a twisted bitch that I love to hate. She’s my mistress. She knows me better than anyone. I cannot lie to her. Shes beautiful and honest.

First time poster…
I think of golf as a vehicle. Currently I use it most to spend time with my son who is in love with the game. But I also use golf to stay in touch with my cousin and old friends. It’s probably the best way for me to meet new people too. Some Ill know for 4 hours some I will meet up with countless times after. Golf is the vehicle I use to experience all these wonderful times.
This vehicle also carries me to very trying places of bad rounds and bad shots. Golf tests all of us and the more we seek to find our best, the more cruel the game can often become. But that challenge is something that also brings me back and overcoming that can be rewarding for sure.
But if my son didn’t like golf I would find the activity where we could spend time together. I could go fish with my cousin or see a show with friends. If I wanted just a challenge I could pick countless hobbies or activities that I could use my life to try and master.
What I love about golf is more than that. Golf gives me something I can’t find a replacement for. What I love about golf is that it gives me the opportunity to always be honest. To always do the right thing. To always have integrity. I’m sure I’m in the minority when I say that but I’ve made mistakes in my life and I’m sure as hell not through making them either. I love golf. Glad to have found this forum

It is a game of avoiding mistakes rather than scoring points or goals. That’s the challenge and the love, always possible, never achieved.

It’s great to have a pursuit that, no matter how hard you try, you’ll never master. You’ll have good days, you’ll have bad days, but you’ll always have something more to work on and improve.
Even after shooting an ugly 95 where it feels like i can’t find the centre of the face, I’ve still been outside in the fresh air for a few hours, shooting the shit with good friends and not thinking about the stress of work. What more can you ask for?

An aspect of golf that I love is the zen preparation: marking balls, cleaning clubs, and stocking my bag just the way I like it.
Or, Zen and the Art of Golf Equipment Maintenance, if you prefer.

Watching WWOG Brough Creek last night, and this shot hit me in the feels.
If I could use a screenshot to explain why I love golf, this is as good as any.

My son and I had a another great Sunday at the TOUR Championship yesterday. Rory has always been our favorite golfer and that status has only been cemented by what he’s done for golf in the past season. My son has a life-sized poster of Rory on his wall and was really excited to get a fist bump from Rory as he left the driving range yesterday.
We’ve got a little bit of a coincidental streak going as this is three times in a row where he’s had a nice interaction with the player who went on to win. He got a fist bump from Rory on Saturday at East Lake in 2019. in 2020 no fans were there because of COVID. Last year, we randomly rode down on a hotel elevator with Patrick Cantlay while we were on our way to the Alabama-Miami game and that was the only player Connor interacted with and he won. This year, the only player he fist bumped was Rory, who started the day six back and went on to win.
I’m thinking maybe I need to get him over to Augusta in April to see if the good luck can translate to a green jacket. Regardless, it was another great season and we’ll look forward to seeing @MerchCzar and the gang at the next block party.

Golf is about the pursuit of better for me. I enjoy the day-to-day discovery and incremental improvement. The application of broader mental management from life to golf and from golf to life. I love plotting my way through the golf course. I love hitting shots. I love golf.
