Waveland Breakfast Ball Club: 2025 (Chicago, IL)

Would be interested in this for 2021! Bring on the fucking pancakes!

Interested for 21 too - most of my team is west coast, so mornings sound perfect!

Hey guys!

New to The Refuge and in Chicago. I would definitely be interested in doing this next. Also curious if there are any sourhsiders who would be interested in doing this next season at SSCC or Marquette.

We thinking of keeping on Thurs?
Or potentially can we move to Fri (pending Chicago Park District)?
As we return to more normal, chance I am out of town some Thursdays. I got vax’d so guess they’ll expect me in more.

I’m pretty indifferent on Thurs vs Fri, so whatever works best for the group. When should we reasonably aim to kick off the season?

Thursday works better for me… we’ll probably be sneaking out of the city Thursday evenings quite a bit again this summer. Maybe the reality is we do two different days. :frowning:

I would say April? Whenever the shit melts right?

EDIT: Sunrise is 5:50 starting in April. That will for sure work!

I’d be up for joining this year if there’s room. Wasn’t tough enough for the wake-up time last summer.

Would it be possible to do this on a set morning but not at a set course? It would be sick to get a matchplay or Wolfhammer or whatever type of league together that just meets at a different course every Thursday morning at first tee time out. And, if the Thursday morning at Waveland/Marovitz is set, maybe we could do a different day like Tuesday? Just throwing it out there… Here’s a Spring sample schedule:

4/6 - Preserve at Oak Meadows, earliest tee time
4/13 - Mt. Prospect, earliest tee time
4/20 - Harborside Starboard
4/27 - Sunset Valley
5/4 - Glencoe
5/11 - Ravisloe
5/18 - Calumet
5/25 - Bowes Creek
6/1 - Wilmette
6/8 - Harborside Port
6/15 - Schaumburg

Each person who wants in can submit a course for the rota.

MP could be near impossible to get out at the times you want. The entire dad/grandpa population of town here have season passes and all play in foursomes in the morning. First “non-member” tee time might not be until 7:45-8am.

That sounds super!

But it won’t work for me. I think the intent of breakfast ball 1.0 (especially for me personally but I believe @TheAbeFroman @ChiFFI and @PinkPantser would agree) was that the 9 holes made it easy to get back to work around a normal time (we were always done well before 9)… and we are all city guis so its proximity is an asset as well.

Last year it was only the four of us, so it’d be great to get more people. But if it’s all about speed, time and frequency/consistency we could do satellite locations and like an end of season tournament or something if Syd is undesirable for all. I for one am pretty locked in to Syd on Thursday’s.

But again, satellite locations would be sick and I’ll just remain “chair” of the Sydney Thursday game.

I’ll have to stay at city 9 due to work, but a Breakfast Ball Rota looks like a sweet concept for those that can pull it off.

Shame on me for not acknowledging the Black

Strong candidate for “no woods/drivers” rounds next year.

What do you think you could shoot at rob black with only one club and a putter and what club would you take? I think I could score pretty well out there with naught but an 8 iron

There’s only one way to find out.

Alright let’s begin firming up plans for this season’s breakfast ball.

Overview:
Breakfast Ball started amid a pandemic in the summer of 2020, when three dishonorable men (@ChiFFI, @TheAbeFroman and me) and a sweatpants-wearing floppy-hat donning hustler (@PinkPantser) met as strangers at dawn on the shores of Lake Michigan for golf. After one of them called two of the others the wrong name for months, they eventually hit a groove and agreed that “Yeah, you guys’ll do.”

The whole idea is fast play as early as possible to get home to work or family or reddit threads. We typically played around 6 a.m. on Thursday mornings, but we will get the earliest tee time so it’ll fluctuate from 5:30 to 6:30 depending on sunrise.

We do have a relationship with the GM at Sydney to get blocks of tee times, and we can confirm that again.

It appears we may have at least two more interested in the city (@TrajMahal @BabblingBrooksKoepka) , and Jake may not be back from Michigan for a while, so we should firm up our numbers.

It also appears some people may want to do their own thing at other courses, which is awesome.

Let’s fill out this spreadsheet if you are “in” – and if there is some interest within a particular region of the burbs (NW, W, etc.) then someone else can coordinate that.

After we get a sense for numbers, we’ll set this thing up for as soon as the snow melts.

Last year, we did see about 75% attrition from the people who said they were interested vs. the number of people who actually showed up at this crazy hour… so i think efforting for 8 at the Sydney location (or city rota) will be a nice goal.

Let’s go launch em!

I’d be down. I wife had our first kid in early June last summer so it killed me. Would definitely be down this year as I am an Avondale gui. My usual was dawn at Billy C. on Wednesdays &/or Fridays but I could probably make most mornings work.
