Waveland Breakfast Ball Club: 2025 (Chicago, IL)

We both undersold our speed before teeing off today.

Curtis went off first with a 4 iron a wedge and a putter with no bag. He ended up shooting a 44 with a lone birdie on 5 he came in at 26 minutes for a total of 70.

I was running late and had zero motivation this morning and came speeding into the parking lot jamming to Shake That. Grabbed my drive 8 iron wedge and my putter with 2 gold balls and 7 tees. Ended up catching Curtis on 6 while we waited for the mowers to get off the green. Then on 7 we both agreed to skip the green and give ourselves a bogey to get around the mowers for the final 2 holes. I shot a 43 with no birdies but 3 pars and came in with the same time of 26 minutes for a total of 69.

Got a nice talking to from the grounds crew saying we screwed up their operations and to not do that again. Hopefully next year it’s not the same grounds crew

It’s really starting to set in that the seasons almost over … where tf did time go? I’ll share the 1st hole footage of @djheadley and @Cswartz’s speed golf showdown later here and in the discord. Both beat my score today with 3-4 clubs … while running

That said, I had a pillow fight of a match with @Gottliebk12 who drained a monster putt on 9 to leave things AS. Nothing to write home about on my end, however, he took a page out of my book this morning haha - quite the up and down round. Did get a kick out of The Grint trying to call BS on my nine straight 2-putt’s today:

Also realized @Ballgame has to ‘Will’ himself past two ‘Wills’ to win WBC’s Race to the Clocktower V, so got a kick out of that as well. Next week is going to be a clash of the titans and I can’t wait! Who will raise the non-existent trophy at Will’s Northwoods Inn? Tune in next week to find out! … so many ‘Wills’

Psycho card to make @rmbartell blush (he may have made par on two. Either way I lost the hole). Putt on 9 was a cherry on a lukewarm sundae. Hope @TheAbeFroman enjoyed spectating our little cat fight.
Can attest @djheadley was in the zone while blasting Shake That in the car as he rolled up.

Next week is the final week. I’m challenging @rmbartell to a sword fight! A one club challenge with a blade. I’m going 7 iron as my club of choice and I’m biking over like I used to do for baseball practice as a kid. The LSD traffic has gotten to me.

If anyone wants to book a 4some for the 12th now is the time to do it. Y’all can call it silly season and continue to play at sunrise as long as you want

As a thank you from the supers, they’ve agreed to give you pars on 7, we saw you waiting and lying clean.

Yeah we assumed either a GIR and 3 putt (happened a lot with an average HR of 150) or a missed GIR and quick little chip and 2 putt. Was a very gentleman agreement as we both were getting ancy waiting for the green to clear.

Alright, since it’s the playoffs I’ll do the full rundown whether you like it or not.

Theme of the day: Will and I didn’t spend much time together today apart from the tees and greens. He was usually in the left trees, I was over in the right trees.

1: FW, GIR, 2 putt par from 15’ while Will had tree trouble left off the tee making bogey. 1 up

2: Will with a prenatal comfy 3 putt par after two good shots. I ran into fir tree trouble right and could only manage a 2 putt par from 20’. AS

3: I went to church short right and hit a poor chip but dropped a 20’ for par. Will hit a poor lag but responded to my bomb with a nice make of his own. A rare halve

4: Again, I hit it into a fir tree right and had to hack it out. But made a great up and down from 110 yards. Will again had tree trouble right and made 6. Huge win on a stroke hole.1 up

5: I thought I put my gave my ProV1 a Viking burial but it was saved by a tree allowing me to make 5. Will hit a great drive and approach into the upslope short left. Easy up and down for 4->3. AS

6: Will pulls it a touch too far left into the bunker. I can’t control my spin and rip it back from pin high to the rough short of the green, but make the up and down look easy. Will can’t get up and down. 1up

7: Will makes a great 4 from the left trees. I’m again dealing with an evergreen on the right, best I can do is make 5. AS

8: Will overdraws it left but gets a good kick allowing him to make a pretty low stress par. I hit my best drive of the year on 8, leaving a chip from behind the green. I give myself a 10 footer which burns the edge. AS

9: Will connects on one that I thought was well within the margin of error. I was wrong. After a 2’59" search we find it in the woods a good 315-320 yards from the tee markers. It’s all for naught as I am able to get my poor approach shot up-and-down from long right as Will struggled to get in the house. 1 up victory

tl;dr reasonably competent but rarely impressive golf from both sides. I got up and down 4 of 5 times which was the difference

I thoroughly enjoyed your timber-forward take on the match this morning - so much so that I embarked on a coniferous quest to understand Sydney’s species of un-friendly firs.

Based on minutes of extensive research I’ve come to the conclusion that, while extremely common, a new species has been discovered. Figure 1 below has been submitted to the International Society of Arboriculture for review.

Much to @treeputttim’s disdain, these dense derivatives will continue to plague Breakfast Ballers for generations to come.

Edit: Yes, I’m aware that I screenshotted the wrong bunker & missed-FIR that Moth is alluding to but don’t have more minutes to update my error

An incredible write-up, spot on.

Will print it out and use as motivation for offseason workouts/practice!

The barrage of up and downs was particularly impressive and made me feel the pressure on #6 and #9. Well played!

Separate from my previous tangent on Sydney’s ‘missed-FIRs’ I was very curious what was transpiring in the woods off 9.

Was starting to wonder if we’d actually see someone walk back to the tee box and hit another or if the Commish would be called in for a match deciding ruling.

Led to an extremely rare WBC moment where I was able to have a brief but phenomenal ‘sit’ on 9’s bench - so thank you for that (no sarcasm)

If I was on the tee box… I’d be hitting into those folks

Wanted to slowly list out the awards this year so starting with the Classics. Of course @WillyK has already taken the Regular Season Quota Champ award and he is set to face off against @ballgame next week to decide who is crowned the true WBC champion in the Race to the Clocktower.

Here are some other classic awards to be given out. Easier to just paste since there are a lot of repeats here but congrats to @delirioustim @TheAbeFroman @Mr.Sunday and again to Will and Ted

Some impressive stats. My favorite may be Jon’s on 5/23, I remember this round and boy was it bad. It was a RTW and with a quota of 21 Jon hit 1 fairway and had 0 birdies while scoring almost a season’s worst of 42.

Another favorite is Mr. Fairway Finder Tim. Finding fairways helps you hit greens, but that won’t help when you much average 2.17 putts per GIR.

Come back tomorrow to see who the Hole by Hole champs are. Spoiler only 5 of the 10 applicable guis are the champs.

Also if anyone wants this stat tracker machine to see their stats all year please let me know and I’ll forward it along via email. The bajillion screenshots is something I am not feeling.

Happy Friday everyone! Currently nursing a hangover from going too hard at the Pearl Jam concert so lets let announce the Hole by Hole champs.

As to be expected @WillyK is the champ of 4/9 holes and one of two to average under par on the par 5s.

When digging into the stats, I was shocked at how easy @wheel made #6 look. Over 8 rounds he had 3 birdies,3 pars, one bogey and one double bogey to perfect average out to even par.

image

I believe @Ballgame noted that anyone who is the champ of a whole has naming rights to that hole for next year.

Congrats to @Cswartz for crusing #2. Fun fact Curtis averaged the same score for #2 and #9.

Hole #5 was always going to be Teddy’s hole. Dude can just pound it over the bunkers on the right without of care in the world and a whole lot of perspective

And @delirioustim has #7 right where he wants it. With only one birdie on that hole all year its impressive to keep that average so low. Out of 8 rounds he had 5 pars, one birdie and 2 bogeys.

Kind of crazy that if you took the average of the hole by hole champs they shoot just over even par.

See y’all Tuesday for the inverse hole by hole champs. Some big numbers were put up this year.
