New column here, as JAD, Ballgame, and the Pantser have birdied a very nice 6/9 holes on their pursuit of the birdie challenge.

Damn I know the boys have been progressive about wearing tees to Breakfast Club but I had not even thought about getting into the crop top scene

I have heard this song, this seems to be a Target #ad.

Any tee time requests this week? I’m in the process of putting the teams together for Open Week. Friendly reminder we are doing scotch foursomes in honor of the old course

Latest and greatest from BBK Labs’ experimentation with rudimentary strokes gained statistics.

To date we have a lot of Level 1 statistics - basic calculations on raw inputs. We’re constantly getting better and beginning to look at some Level 2 stuff - think “if x, then y.”

And so I present the first piece, Fairways Missed Penalty. Quite simply, scoring average per hole when we hit the fairway vs. scoring average per hole when we miss the fairway.

Hole #7 appears to be the least important fairway to hit - maybe because if you miss by 3 tee you can still hit a wedge in?

Hole #4 appears to be the most important fairway to hit - makes sense as there are heavy trees to both sides.

All in all, missing the fairway costs us about a half stroke per hole on average. By this analysis, the average golfer that hit every fairway would gain a 3.27 stroke advantage over the average golfer that hit zero fairways in a round.

My next exercise will be to look at these splits by individual golfer.

Please ignore my first oh 5 weeks in this exercise.

It’s also a long hole. Hitting a hybrid or long iron out of the rough is much harder than out of the fairway. And yes, I am an expert.

Looking at the google sheets it looks like @tmstrods took @Ballgame place this week? Is that accurate or did you mean to fill it out for @TeddyPargame ?

That’s accurate. @TheAbeFroman and I are playing a fourball qualifier Thursday.

My bad. I was stealthy about it and didn’t mention it when I highlighted that spot.

Scotch foursomes is simple. Each team member tees off on each hole, you pick the best shot and play alt-shot. Let’s try to at least make it fair and say each team member has to use their tee shot at least 2 times through the 9.

Groups report back to me or fill out the Leaderboard after your round Thursday.

@Lockwoodj14 let me know what your HCP at Sydney is and you and @JAD will be set

@djheadley In the spirit or fairness my CH is now a 1. Not sure if that shakes things up but I know publicly announcing this is bound to bite me in the ass
