Trap Draw: Wright Thompson

For how much those bottles are going for(I wouldn’t sell), it would probably be cheaper and safer for me to drive from California

I’ve been lucky to have been gifted a bottle of ORVW10, it’s defintely changed my perspective as to how much I’d pay for a bottle of Lot B.

Positively or negatively?

Positively

Thompson’s piece on daufuskie is one of my favorite things he’s done. It’s a mystical place.

Reviving this thread to plug Wright’s newest piece on Archie Manning. A fantastic read, even more so for someone who didn’t watch Archie Manning play and knows of him solely as being Peyton and Eli’s dad. The part discussing Archie’s relationship with his father (I’ll leave it at that as not to spoil the full story) is particularly moving and a testament to his character.
Link below, unfortunately behind the ESPN+ paywall.

Same Trap Draw… different smart guy writer guest.
Best line “I have seen some Branch Davidians in the wild”

The Waco Baylor Prof Dan Walden had an interesting career path.
Very different than me.
Him… Pre med, wants to be an orthopedic surgeon >>> Moby Dick>>> English major >> english prof

Me>>> freshman english Moby Dick>> cant get past page 75>>> Cliff notes and begging to scrape out a B- >>> O Chem was a breeze compared to that >>> Ortho surgeon

My first Waco association is 100% the Branch Davidians…the Waco TrapDraw was the first I had really heard of Chip and Joanne

I’m just listening to the Waco Trap Draw and I’m pretty sad there weren’t some David Koresh related jokes in the “who we efforted” section. I think TC actively tried to avoid that.

Also, I cannot stand Chip and Joanna. We have one of her cookbooks (which is amazing, and I think everyone needs to try their Raspberry-Chipotle Pork Tenderloin recipe ASAP), but they are some really shady people when it comes to how they view the world and treat others. A friend that lives in Waco says they are not great people to run into around town.

I’d read some literature on this. Please share more.

Merry Christmas, I hope everyone has an amazing day!

Enjoy. I just finished it and I think anyone can find something that moves them in this book. The last third is incredible.

Also received it for Christmas. Finished it about an hour ago. Easy read but not a lazy write. There was some depth to the story. He is a great storyteller and you can tell that he and Julian have a lot in common in how they look at the world.

What happens when Wright comes through town with a bottle of PVW 15 year from Julian’s private stock and finds a steakhouse with outdoor seating and you haven’t hung out in 10 months cause Rona.

Is there a humblebrag of the year nomination?

While KVV is a pro-takesmith and ineligible for other Refuge awards, I think he’s still able to win this one.
