Spider man meme
Also…did anybody catch the Community reference from Richie in episode 9?
Also based on all these recent postings, it doesn’t seem like “episode 6 doesn’t fit/wasn’t good/felt out of place” is a hot take, quite the opposite.
I think episode 6 was incredibly important to fully understand the characters and their background. It gave us a better understanding of Carmy, his sister, Richie. I also think that if the episode was shorter or only a portion of a different episode it would have been hard to convey as many feelings and emotions.
One thing I love about the show is that it lingers on the uncomfortable, and it lingers for what feels like too long but I think that makes it great.
Heard
I think if you view Episode 6 as a set piece for what’s to come, it totally fits. There’s a ton of base layering in that episode that pays off in the last four episodes, especially the finale.
I get why it is unsettling for people, but I think as time goes on, and people rewatch it and connect the dots, it will hold up very well.
I can agree, right now, it’s not a hot take.
Getting a full understanding of the relationship between Donna and the kids was very important I think as well. Brought so much more gravity to what happened later in the season
Right on.
It’s basically Season 2 of the Wire.
Yessss! Solid take.
And I love Season 2 of The Wire. Personally, I find it extremely underrated.
One last thing for now
Summary
Obviously he’s the butt of a lot of jokes throughout both seasons, but Pete really redeemed himself in that scene with Donna in the finale… and it kind of really sucks because he won’t get any credit for it. Thought it was a really good way to tie his character back in after not playing much of any role in the rest of the season outside of episode 6
Even though we didn’t get a lot of Pete this season, I love his character. He’s clearly the right person for Nat, even if the rest of the family sometimes sees him as a joke. He has the biggest heart of anybody on the show. That scene was wonderful.
I love this too. The fact is, Sug married a really nice guy in Pete, who tries hard to fit into a very dysfunctional family because he has to. He means well in everything he does and usually has to deal with the Berzatto shrapnel because they’re assholes and he’s a good person, and shitty people resent good people.
Feel for that guy.
I watched part of Ep 6 on mute with captions because I couldn’t take the people yelling over each other anymore. I had big family holiday gatherings in my grandma’s tiny house growing up and there were never any scenes like that, but it still gave me anxiety. It wasn’t the yelling so much as all the different voices trying to yell over each other.
When cousin calls Carmy “Donna” in the finale and you see his reaction, that scene would not have been as great without ep6.
It was a hard episode to get through but definitely explained A LOT!
I think that is what this show does so well - makes you feel anxiety and tension in the room
My wife doesn’t love the show as much as I do because it stresses her out
Just realising now that all the talk on here and on the internet for The Bear is because Season 2 is actually out?! On my way to binge watching it this weekend then.
The kitchen scenes were hard for me at first but I grew to love them because I could appreciate the work that was being done. The family scene I just wanted someone in that house to yell “Everyone STFU!”
I get this is a show that is “don’t get too excited something bad is for sure going to happen”, but the whole detail about the fridge was just so forced. Obv the show is about the people, and it was great to see some real character growth but the handle would have been fixed by any of the other people not named Carm in a real scenario. Especially the project manager.
I’m not saying it wasn’t a great season, it was. Or that the character development wasn’t incredible, it was. But the finale was weakest episode.
Sounds like a S3 episode
