Two months ago I really didn’t think I was going to need to watch Emilia Perez
The nominated performances are actually quite good, but the parts are certainly greater than their sum
Like chocolate cake covered in chilli sprinkled with sugar and cocaine
How did you know what I packed for lunch today?
I watched Emilia Perez last night - I’m so baffled as to why the whole industry is fawning over it.
Before even getting to the many problems it has, it was just boring! The songs aren’t good! A movie with that kind of premise should be so much more audacious than it is.
My biggest snub is Kneecap getting shut out of the International category. Please go see it if you haven’t, right up the Refuge’s alley.
We are eating today in the Emilia Perez hive
It’s on Netflix!
@pearcebarr and the Emilia Perez Hive:

I can’t hear you over my 13 oscar nominations
Free idea for a fun Oscar’s bit - Ariana Grande can sing the Domingo song about Colman Domingo.
Also I don’t think it’s too late for a Tár conducting the orchestra bit
if anyone is conducting anything, it better be Daniel Blumberg conducting the Brutalist’s score
Brutalist is playing at the former art house theatre now one scene cineplex near me. I feel like I might have to get there and join the discourse
If Wicked or Better Man win for Visual Effects I’m going to become the joker. As bad as the Bohemian Rhapsody nom for Editing a few years ago.
Also I feel like a lot of the Emilia Pérez noms are a result of the Wicked push. I found both of those movies to be Just Fine with some good performances, but people act like Wicked is Return of the King and Emilia Pérez is Plan 9 from Outer Space.
The thing is we all watched it and know it’s not particularly good
That’s why I shared that skeet here. I knew you’d all get a kick out of it.
Very much disagree regarding Better Man - thought the VFX was fantastic. It’s the same tech used for the new Planet of the Apes movies.
Not sure if it should win, but it’s not an egregious nom by any means.
