Trap Draw: Chop Sessions

I was laughing very hard when Neil went on his AEW wrestler mea culpa rant. My god that was funny!

Couldn’t agree more about Netflix feeling soulless, have felt that way about 12 months now as well. I only hop on there if there’s some movie exclusive I want to see on there or a comedy standup but thats about it. Netflix produced stuff is garbaggio and very algo feeling devoid of anything. It’s like they don’t want to cross any single line so it becomes the most meaningless thing you’ve watched.

I think the best shows & movies are currently Apple TV and Hulu. They definitely push the envelope in their own ways.

I reactivated my Netflix for the first time in probably 4 years because of the Chiefs game on Christmas. I watched Quarterback too but the non documentary stuff Netflix all looks like poopoo. Already cancelled my subscription again because none of it interests me.

Also thank you @MerchCzar for letting @Tron know about Magnus Carlsen. He’s not just a guy who’s really good and a world champ at Chess, he’s the freaking Wayne Gretzky of chess. He’s so good he’s bored as you can tell with these stories about him. Dudes are plugging shit in their butt just to have a chance to beat him!!

Even Squid Game 2 was soulless.

One time the YT algorithm fed me a clip of Magnus playing celebrity poker and it seemed like he had an expert level grasp of that game, too.

Yeah he’s extremely gifted

@MerchCzar have a kiddo a few months ahead of yours… can’t speak to the full west to east coast conundrum, but for our normal 2-3 hour flights, we’re strictly on morning flights at this point. Wake him maybe a couple hours before normal. Get where we’re going by early afternoon to where he can hopefully get a nap in and reset to normal.

Changed a flight over the holidays realizing I booked something midday and that he’d have zero chance to nap during the day. Until he’s much older - I think 3 or 4 - expecting him to sleep on the plane feels futile.

And zero shame of having my kid in first class. I earned that upgrade.

After listening to the sponsorship pod this feels like such a weird activation. Like what is Delta getting out of this besides having 2 current loyalty rewards members light 650K Skymiles on fire?

@Tron We fully subscribed to the skiing in the Alps cost theory this year. Definitely checks out.

Our trip could have even been cheaper than stateside if we would have gone to Austria, Italy, or France instead.

Swiss ski school was great with the kiddos, about half the price of Utah or Colorado and the ski towns we visited were both very family friendly.

1st time skiing for both of mine and already planning to run it back next year.

@MerchCzar you said that you want direct flights over everything else, and you want lounge access too. How early are you getting to the airport to get into the lounge? As a person that is lucky enough to live in a city with a bunch of nonstops, I’m trying to spend as little time as possible in the airport before the flight, so the lounge access part wouldn’t be a big thing for me. But I’m willing to hear arguments for your approach!

Weird coincidence, but having recently moved to the big city I was out walking by the Central Park baseball fields at the exact same time as @MerchCzar 's story about Kendall Graveman came on the pod yesterday.

I like arriving early. I try to get to airport 2 hours before a flight. Less stress with golf bag/luggage (and kid), and I can get some work done in the lounge + a hearty meal (instead of eating a energy bar and chex mix).

Got it. Outside of a golf bag, I’m never checking a bag so that plays heavily into the decision on when to get to the airport.

Lounge scene is also pretty tough overall in Boston, my home base. Probably also plays a part in my calculus.

You’re not on vacation until you’re through security!

I’d rather be in the lounge with a drink over being at home just to potentially stress over missing a flight because I didn’t want to be at the airport early.

Also it looks like most airlines are fixing their lounge access but when they’re busy, going to a restaurant in the airport might actually be better than the lounge. Lounge is just nice because it’s free.

I’m probably getting through security (TSA Precheck FTW) with <45 minutes before boarding. Airport is 20-25 minutes from me depending on traffic. So I can typically leave my home under 2 hours before my departure time and never have an issue. Again, this is without checking a bag. Having to check my golf clubs adds another level of stress to the equation, and that’s where I’d want the lounge access after getting to airport early to get bag checked.

All of that said, my 2 main airlines out of Boston are Jetblue and Delta. Delta’s lounge access is a very tough scene right now, and Jetblue doesn’t even have a lounge at their terminal.

Delta lounge stinks at Logan

No first hand knowledge, but have heard the Delta Lounge on the far side of Terminal A (the one after that long underground walk) is much nicer than the one just after security.

Can’t be much worse!

I don’t think that would be a bad home airport

I think the worst thing about it is the bus you have to take to move everywhere
