Those trucks are sweet. So are the little vans that people have been importing for the last few years.
I’m 6’6”, so I don’t think I could comfortably use one as my daily, but they’re definitely cool.

yeah, in retrospect that would have been genius. I think one of them rigged up a fake cruise control with a 2x4 because he was literally hurting himself keeping the pedal all the way to the floor for hours at a time.
I brought this up briefly via a voicemail after Mat Ishbia bought the Suns, but things are getting even more exciting in this feud and just with Ishbia in general.
ESPN had a great write-up about the feud between Ishbia and Rocket Mortgage with this very little brother-like quote: “We’re the No. 1 mortgage company in America,” Ishbia repeated. “The No. 2 mortgage company is a sponsor here, which won’t be lasting long.” Laughter broke out among employees.
Here’s a link for that: Billionaire mortgage battle: Inside the owner rivalry of Cavs' Dan Gilbert and Suns' Mat Ishbia - ESPN
Then, a report from a new hedge fund/media company (weird, I know) came out with a variety of what looks like well-researched details. Because I read that they may have shorted the stock, I’ll just share a story from the Arizona newspaper about it: Matt Ishbia addresses critical article on UWM, takes aim at Cavs owner
In that article and the video here, Ishbia does make a crazy but expect accusation that the article was actually funded by Dan Gilbert and Rocket Mortgage: https://twitter.com/DuaneRankin/status/1775943646304727198
This feels TD-adjacent. Poor guy was homeless and I’m sure that played a part in people finding him “crazy” and locking him up.
This is absolutely horrifying.
The real Woods had official documents, but couldn’t answer the bullshit security questions, so they charged him with identity theft and put him in a mental institution when he wouldn’t renounce his real name.
All the fucking paper work you have to do at the bank and they still couldn’t get it right. Perhaps there’s a more secure way to prove your social security number than a piece of paper you have to keep track of from the day you’re born.
He needs to sue everyone under the sun.
I don’t think deaths/mile driven is a superior statistic b/c our built environment should make it easier to drive less. That miles driven statistic is not some immutable fact. A death averted from either making streets or cars safer vs. making it possible to take a trip w/o a car is still a car-death averted.
Our streets aren’t insanely unsafe, there’s a lot to be improved upon, FOR SURE. But the real problem is car-centric infrastructure that requires massive amounts of driving. And that rise in car-related deaths is concerning and worth discussing.
@KVV an NBA owners pod dedicated to these two would be incredible. Both their backstories are wild but their petty beefs really push it over the top.
No, sorry, I’ve been assured all that matters is that deaths per 1M miles travelled is maybe less than that of Russia if you ignore the other graphed data from FT and there’s no need to be concerned.
Keep your heads on a swivel - the animal revolution is alive and well and hitting far too close to home for my liking.
The squirrels (or rats) have been chewing the sockets off my backyard cafe lights. Between that and the repeated incursions into my bird feeder, I’ve about had it with these pests.
You’re right that the route of the problem is how car-centric America’s transportation infrastructure is. That this extends to even the densest of populated areas is concerning.
I’m not a Chicagoan or extremely well versed in local politics there, but I’ve seen what Lightfoot and now Johnson have done (and not done) in regards to the CTA’s continual reduction in scheduling in one of the largest metros in this country and it’s confounding. What does this achieve other than to continually increase the focus on cars and make it more difficult for people of all walks to get around the city?
My principal parks under a big tree in front of our school and squirrels chewed through some wires last year and he had to get towed. I may or may not just randomly remind him about that.
Yah, I feel like this story kind of buries the lead. It’s not that this random guy stole his identity for decades. It’s that he went into a bank branch and told them someone stole his identity and created accounts that he would like closed. They then asked him security questions for the account (which he didn’t know, obviously) and despite presenting them documents to prove his identity they for some reason thought he was the fraud and threw him in jail for 2 years.
One of my coworkers also has had to make several squirrel-related repairs to his truck. I think the fuel line was the most recent victim.
Re: CTA. My understanding is that it’s not a concerted or even ignorant attempt to dismantle public transit. It’s a threefold problem:
There really isn’t any political movement to curb public transit. It’s pretty widely understood as vital to the city, but Lightfoot was politically incompetent and Johnson just seems over his head. Hanlon’s razor: never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.
We need to have regulation around hotels that advertise having a King bed but giving you twins pushed together. I feel like this happens much more in the UK and Europe.
Just tell me at booking that my bed is “dual twins” or something else obnoxiously repetitive rather than me getting into bed expecting a King and my leg sinking through the cushion crevasse in the middle when i roll over.
fucking bullshit false advertising
I absolutely love how worked up you are about this.
