I think I posted somewhere on here about it but I had an E-Biker punch my window as he went by because he had to “swerve” as I came to a full stop to turn right onto my street because a mom was walking with her toddler.
He then swung back around and followed me, made me stop and spit on my car and then when he realized there were witnesses and what he’d actually done he sped off.
Bikers, cars when they want to be, pedestrians when they want to be, assholes all the time.
One of my lower points as a father was getting in a screaming match with a cyclist who insisted I cut him off on the road. I pointed out the very nice bike path he wasn’t using and that made him very mad. (Note that my friend and SOMETIME ally @marklemcd said he would never use the bike path unless he wanted a tire puncture.) He was furious at me and I should have just apologized (even though I still don’t know what I did wrong) and my daughter has brought this up at least three times in the two years since it happened. (She was in the car when it happened.) The guy spit at my car, gave me the finger and yelled at me vociferously and I still somehow have guilt over losing my temper like that.
But I really don’t understand why cyclists won’t use the fucking bike lane
Not all bikers… but really this is why I avoid biking anywhere with significant traffic, bikes and cars just don’t mix well. Bike infrastructure is pretty incomplete where I live, sometimes there will be bike lanes that just disappears or sidewalks/paths that are technically not allowed to bike on. Sharing the road with cars is sometimes a necessary evil, but just try to take up as little space as possible and plan my biking routes in BFE. I’d love to commute more by bike, but I dread getting in and out of traffic.
I remember now; that path was in such awful shape die to the pavement buckling due to tree roots and there being potholes that it was less dangerous to just ride in the street. I stand by that
7.5 earthquake in Taiwan in the past few hours. Tsunami warning for western coast of Japan. And, allegedly, Chinese naval vessels are gathering off the coast of Taiwan. Needs to be monitored.
I’ve told myself not to engage into this, but fuck it: it’s just so mind blowing that people think that it’s ok to literally kill someone for causing a minor inconvenience (in forcing them to wait for enough space to go around and/or slow down enough to pass safely).
Yes - cyclists sometime roll/run stop signs, but to make a broad generalization right back - the people who are usually angry about that are the same ones who will roll through stop signs themselves.
well yeah, the cyclist existed on the road so naturally, he deserved it
/s, obviously.
I have an extra tough time with this as someone who really really really loved riding on the road, who really can’t/doesn’t anymore because of how dangerous it is now where I live. I’m not sure if it’s a locale thing (never had too many issues 15 years ago in like NYC suburbs or NH. Riding in MI, I got buzzed far too many times - maybe it’s a thing with distracted driving, maybe it’s just where I live, who knows).
