Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

MCI is the airport code. Stands for Mid Continent International. It’s a throwback to when TWA thought Kansas City had hub potential.

Oops - not the first time this particular one has happened either. Some guy like 25 years ago did the same thing.

I’ve heard about people inadvertently booking a flight to Sydney, Novascotia (CYQY) instead of Australia. Didn’t know there was a Sidney, MT, much less an airport there to book a flight to.

It’s only served by a small EAS airline (I think the planes are 8 seaters) and the only people that fly in typically are those looking to visit the Bakken oil fields.

@tron hotel question but what was your club lounge policy and how flexible would you be back in your days? I worked for a starwood property pre-merger. We were platinum only, and stuck to it pretty strictly. Our lounge was pretty sick, and we had a ton of platinums during the week. Weekends sucked because the golds would roll in and want access. Those conversations would get old fast.

That’s where my dad grew up!! I have pretty strong ties to Sidney, MT (someone once referred to the Seitzes as “the Kennedys of Sidney”, which is a pretty big overstatement). I still have an Aunt, and three cousins and their families in Sidney. We used to go back every other year or so. There was a cool nine hole course that they’ve since expanded to 18. Was just talking about it last night because I haven’t been back in a while and I need to go visit, but it’s a pain to get to. If you don’t want to spend an arm and leg flying into the tiny airport, you spend an arm and half a leg to fly to Billings and then drive four hours.

The airport, btw, is right next to the golf course, and about a mile from my aunt’s house.

One Flew South on a Friday. Worse places to be waiting for connection home. @Tron

Despite driving through Sidney dozens of times over the years, I hadn’t played the course until last June. Really enjoyed it - my only complaint is that the greens are pretty ho hum from a fun standpoint. They are your standard muni greens with one or two tiers and nothing else really interesting.

They do have grass on them now, which is more than you can say about them when my dad was playing there as a kid. They used to get really firm in the summer, and with the wind, I always found them challenging.

Don’t get me wrong, they were in great condition, just think they need some spiciness!

Taking my wife there this summer and cannot wait! The salmon was spectacular and the fact they had Alagash White (not typically my go to with fish, but has a place in my heart) was the cherry on top

Mid-flight right now. Once again Sky Harbor continues to be a stellar connecting hub. Almost never cancelations or delays due to weather.

Comfortably seated in an exit row in a A321 on my way to MCO.

AA doing an awesome job once again. Clubs are confirmed to be on the plane.

Flightradar of the near miss in Austin today. Big yikes. Planes were under 100 feet for colliding on the runway, one on the landing one taxiing to take off.

Jesus. That’s terrifying

Just a bit. Within 100 feet of the inbound plane landing on top of the other one. Can’t imagine being on either of those. Feel like the one on take off had to hear the other one coming.

Per one of the comments, METAR was showing 1/8SM vis. Even at that level of vis, I struggle to believe FDX would get all the way down to 100 ft AGL before declaring a go around. And how did the tower controller not call for FDX to go around if SWA was slow to launch? Investigation will play out as it will, but I would be shocked if the controller wasn’t fired for this. I understand trying to squeeze in a departure between arrivals, but if it doesn’t work, you have to call that arrival off.

Typo. Edited to MCO. Cocktails at 35,000ft made my fat thumb hit the “I” instead of the “o”.

I was really confused why you’d be bringing clubs this time of year (even though it’ll be near 60 for the next few days)

I didn’t think they could even take off/land with less than 1 mile visibility?
