I hear the BOS signature is really nice, but that was 11 years ago when I would talk to the Hanscom Signature people about flying in there.
Heard the same. Last time I called to ask (which was 5-6 years ago at this point) it was a $33 landing fee, $80 parking fee, $50 GA fee, $100 security fee, and $50 handling fee waived if you fuel. Seems awfully steep for me struggling in there in an Archer lol. I guess that’s why it’s called the $200 hamburger.
And then there isn’t even a good Hamburger anywhere near there.
Hows the new Centurion Lounge at ATL? anyone been yet?
SIL went in a couple of weeks ago while we sat with the poors. Said it was amazing.
Rich White is a tough name for those who want to blame DEI for Boeing’s failures.
A little over 28 hours of travel yesterday door to door. GUM-HNL-DEN-ORD-RIC. I am beholden to United but the fact I was in 5 time zones on 4 different aircraft without a single hitch in the travel plans astounded me.
United Polaris continues to be one of my favorite experiences (whatever that may say about me).
Just had a nightmarish landing into DCA on a CRJ700. Approach was from the south, plenty of wind and turbulence. Pretty sure the pilot got yelled at for lining up at the wrong runway because as we were about 100 feet above the Potomac (having last covered land near National Harbor) we shunted hard to the right and were suddenly above Joint Base Bolling Anacostia so low I could see the tennis balls bouncing on their courts. Hot second I thought we were gonna land in the Potomac or on EPGL. Another pull hook back to the left set us on line for DCA’s shortest of the three runways and we touched down the back right wheels with the plane canting at least 10 degrees offline, and then the nose swung down hard and left to avoid going into the grass. Hope air traffic control ripped this idiot a new one. The cockpit was already vacant by the time I exited from row 15.
Anyway I got a nice pic of RTJ on the way in, which will host the Solheim Cup in September.
I think you’re being a little overly harsh on the pilots here. DC is getting very strong winds out of the northwest today, and it’s very likely that the winds exceeded the crosswind limitations to RWY 01 (the longest runway at DCA). Due to airspace limitations, there is no straight in approach to RWY 33 (the one you landed on), and instead only an RNAV approach (relying on GPS coordinates). The RNAV approach requires following the Potomac north until reaching Anacostia and making a sharp left turn 1.4 miles out (which isn’t much when landing). Winds probably made keeping the aircraft level and steady a challenge, so it’s not a shock that you landed on one gear instead of both equally. It happens, aircraft can handle this so long as its not regular.
You just experienced an unusual approach that was flown correctly albeit made challenging by the winds - consider yourself lucky!
DCA is also a pretty short runway, so pilots are going to put the plane down quickly. Had many a rough landing into DCA.
It’s fine. The first one that’s actually big enough. Food is pretty bleh. Cool outdoor area overlooking the tarmac. Easily accessible via plane train.
Id also imagine if someone is lined up on the wrong runway that low especially at DCA they aren’t going to just jump over to the correct runway, they will go around. And they will go around quickly!
I don’t know exactly how this all works, but I’ve flown in and out of DCA dozens of times (if not hundreds) in all kinds of weather, and I’ve never experienced anything remotely like this landing. I get that landings are rough sometimes (especially on short runways) but everything about it felt incredibly wrong.
You were probably on an AA CRJ, right?
Almost all of them flew the exact approach you are describing. The few that did try straight in for 33 had to go around most of the times. Wind was 25kn gusting 36kn coming from 290, which I reckon is pretty close to the limits for such a small plane.
Of course get to the gate early and there is no gate agent, it happens. But instead of just sitting and waiting a group had to jump up and now I have a large ass in face. Lean on your own damn seat.
Shocking this is on AA
I more blame st. Louis. Provel makes people dumb.
