Me, someone:
You, a rube: Thinks being a member of a club anyone with a credit score above 600 can be a member of “is a thing”
Also Me: LAX-CDG when appropriate, yet savvy enough to take JBLU LAX-JFK (mint) then JFK-CDG (Delta) when needed.

It’s an LA thing, really. When flyover people move to the big city, they develop irrational love for and defensiveness about things like Santa Monica and LAX. Probably because they inspired wonder when they saw them for the first time, as compared to what they previously thought was the greatest thing ever — the Mall of America or whatever.
This is the richest thread I’ve ever seen.
Well, lucky for this thread and DD I’m on my way to Montecito with the kid. Speaking of Montecito, do you fly there from Burbank, @anon47037505?
True.
9/10 times I’m flying into SNA > LAX …barring the need to go international.
Irrational love for that “little” airport.
It’s really just duffer and Laz seeing who has the weirder shaped dick.
For the record, not my intention when starting the thread
Just here as a refuge watchdog saying the original MCI take was 3 years ago:
I have a…complicated history with MCI.
In a past life, I left Zodiac to start up an interiors division at Aviation Technical Services. Our “state of the art” maintenece hanar at MCI was a huge part of our sales deck. It didn’t go well.
Wow, completely omitting Atlanta. Cool, cool.
MCI is so bad. So glad we’re finally getting a new one. Hope it’s similar to the newish DAL (Love Field.)
I think Lambert in St. Louis is pretty good. It’s also pretty cool that airplanes are very heavy but fly safely from place to place.
Airports!
Let’s just cut to the chase of where this debate is eventually headed… flying private into airports like PSP take the prize.
Just dropping by here to say how thankful I am that I live in Detroit and have easy access to DTW (Detroit’s airport code).
The McNamara Terminal is incredible, that’s the one the guys were talking about a ton that @sundaybag mentioned was 1.3 miles long. It’s insane. That terminal is almost 20 years old, which is shocking because it doesn’t feel that old and everyone kept talking about how new it was.
The North Terminal opened in 2008 and is also really nice, but doesn’t get as much notice as the McNamara.
Navigating the terminals and the DTW campus is really easy by car, but the biggest downfall is its location in Romulus, about 25 minutes outside of the city. Growing up in the northern suburbs, it was about an hour drive to the airport if there was traffic, so that was always a pain.
When I lived in Ann Arbor I always thought it was funny I had a shorter commute to DTW than my friends who lived in Detroit, Royal Oak, Novi. But now I’ve swapped DTW for DIA (Denver) and I miss McNamara a lot.
All airports completely suck. Whatever airport you think is a good airport, isn’t.
Inefficient hubs for an industry that has only gotten worse with time.
On a separate and unrelated note: Got the email that Global Entry has punted my application into the sun because I did not complete the in-person interview in time. Never mind the fact that my local airports stopped taking appointments altogether, and when I attempted the Enroll On Arrival from international trips, all 3 times their desk was closed during business hours without any explanation. No option but to submit another $100 and try again.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to schedule the in-person Global Entry interview. I owe you a beer.
