Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

LGA is really good now so I’m a bit surprised it’s not ranked higher

Dulles is a midsize airport? Nope can’t take this ranking seriously

My immediate thought as well

Anyone that ranks Sky Harbor as a good airport has never had to take the rental car shuttle there.

The airport train now runs all the way through to the RAC, no need to wait on a shuttle bus anymore.

Apologies. Haven’t been thru in a minute obviously.

Newark is terrible

I was there for spring training around the same time as the strapped boys and it was smooth sailing for pick up and drop off of the rental car. I did have some friends miss their flight as the train broke down. That’s a tough scene.

Really?? Maybe the flight schedules have just worked out for me coming from SAN but the 6:30AM flight gets you in at 3PM and I’m sure there’s flights to most east coast destinations from then on. But that may be a seasonal summer flight to get people there for overnight intl service.

From the west coast if you are going to the Caribbean, I’m assuming DEN or IAH will do the trick vs EWR. Maybe IAD too?

Until the plane train connects to terminal A, EWR will permanently be on the shit list.

The internal parts of EWR are really solid. However getting into, around, and out of that place is truly terrible. The air train sometimes works and NJ drivers and road engineers make driving there deeply not fun

I just realized something. How my take on Dulles (favorable) is different bc it’s my home airport.

I don’t have to deal with rental cars being a bus away or lack of great food options bc I just show up 30/60 mins before and walk onto my plane.

I park right there, someone else pays my $20 a day tab. Plenty of precheck lanes so wait is never more than 10-15 mins.

I like how many places it can take me.

i only fly out of Terminal C at EWR and actually think it’s quite good now, but i can’t speak to the other terminals for American (Terminal A?), Delta, etc. I have never had to use the Air Tran either, so I can’t opine on that, but the psycho NYC cab drivers get me from Manhattan to EWR in 30 minutes and i always get through security in 10 mins or less. I’ll easily take EWR over JFK any day (LGA is great now but mostly domestic flights only, so can’t always use it for work trips)

Also because you’ve used it so often you’ve probably had more good experiences than bad. Most people shitting on airports have only flown into or out of them a few times and have had a bad time so that’s all they know.

If someone hates their home airport then that might actually be a bad one.

DEN is a bad O&D airport right now. The location is terrible and the security lines are awful. The fastest I can be home after landing is an hour, but more likely to be 2 hours than 1.

I wonder if people hate their own airports more due to repeated experiences vs going to a different airport, having 1 good experience and then assuming it is always like this. Also, I feel like we judge airports more harshly at the end of a trip when we just want to get home and have work looming on the horizon versus the euphoria of going on vacation. I have developed this take after noticing no one likes their own city’s subway system.

Also always good to ask with airport takes, does the airport suck, or do you suck?

People also confuse problems with an airline vs problems with an airport.

This too.

Other than ones that haven’t been renovated since the 90s they all look basically the same.

The passenger experience is a big part of how I’d grade an airport. There’s only so much that can be done with terminals and gates.

One of my biggest gripes with JFK is when you return from overseas you have to go outside to get back into the airport to take your domestic flight.
