Trap Draw (273) - 'Groundhog Day' Perfect Club

Really good movie and hit hard when it came out during the summer of Covid lockdowns.

They’re out of Pittsburgh. Movie starts with them doing a broadcast, talking about how they’ll be broadcasting from Punxatawney the next day, then they drive there through a (possibly mystical) snow/ice storm. Hence why Phil is waking up in the B&B every morning.

Super underrated awesome movie. Bit of inspiration for Spike Lee’s Inside Man, as well.

Next holiday season keep an eye out for “Round and Round”. Same premise except it’s Hanukkah, not Groundhog Day. Probably the best Hallmark movie my wife and I watched this year.

And of course the series Russian Doll with Natasha Lyonne is an excellent twist on the “time loop” premise.

Listening to this episode this morning reminded me of something. Doesn’t the scene in the morgue imply that time continues normally for everyone else, with only Phil looping back to start the day?

If so, there’s gotta be some disturbing consequences if Phil’s killed himself multiple times, commited murder, etc.

As for the question of what Phil should do once he escapes the loop, I couldn’t help but think that getting himself to a point where he could make an in-universe Groundhog Day movie would be just about the best thing he could do: it could potentially show others how to escape purgatory. Very meta, I know!

Whoa. Never knew that. Makes total sense though. Love Inside Man. I saw quick change in the theater and when I was 10 cause I loved Bill Murray from Ghostbusters

I really enjoyed the pod. My biggest take away from the movie is when Phil describes his best day and his regret that it wasn’t the one he lived over and over

An answer to how long Phil was stuck in the loop? Confirmation of the 10,000 years theory!
