Welcome, AKSP!

It’s damn good to have you - we’re woefully underrepresented here in the Refuge.

I’ll get to rolling you the rest of the way in, tonight.

I can’t get the thought of that chipper out of my head.

You thinking about getting one? My cousin Brenden (the one in the video) said it was difficult with fast greens to use it. @IlliniGolferHack considered getting one too under the tutelage of Mr. Leadbetter.

This looked like way too much fun. Also, I’d like to hire that caddie for my next tournament. :fire:

Bummed that I missed the first FL outing. Will be looking forward to the Orlando meet up; we still planning on that for sometime in May?

I need to duff lob wedges like a real man

Indeed so. Going to try to avoid actual for real Memorial Day weekend, tho. Maybe first or second week.

In the lost footage from Isleworth two days prior to OM, @sdion06 may or may not have attempted to putt out of a deep greenside bunker…

My Unbiased Review of my 1,000 Greens experience:

I had the privilege of playing The Concession, Golden Bear Club, Isleworth, and Old Memorial this weekend. You’d imagine my excitement going into the opportunities to play these courses.

The Concession: We played a Thursday afternoon round with our host. When we got to the course, he rushed us to the tee without an opportunity to get any food whatsoever despite not having the time to eat lunch. When we asked the host what he did for work, his response was “I sold things that allow me to golf every day” Cool! That wasn’t that big of a deal but it kind of set the stage for what would end up being a disappointing afternoon. The course itself was spectacular, from what we could see of it. The host rushed us around and we were forced to finish in 3 hours and 20 minutes as a 4 some playing Concession for the first time, shooting 80, 88, 104. It wasn’t the experience we were hoping for after paying $250+ dollars. The host lightened up and at least had a beer with us after the round.

Isleworth: After a rushed round Thursday, we were hoping for a different experience at Isleworth. When we got to the course we had a plan to get the host involved in a match and maybe that would allow us the opportunity to play a bit slower. Nope! The host denied our request to be involved in a match with us. He was playing 36 that day and had to “save his mental energy for the afternoon round” He rushed us to the first tee without a chance to practice putting and off we went. We were playing at about a 4 hours pace when at the 6th hole, we were told that we need to pick up the pace. They actually forced us to switch to single carts at the turn so that the pace would be kept up. There was nobody behind us! We finished in 3 hours and 30 minutes with scores of 76,84, and 94. Again, not the experience we would have liked and the host was very stuck up. He made sure to point out all the rich people’s houses around the course. $160

Golden Bear Club: Our afternoon round that same day we had a much better experience by the host. The course itself however was really not anything special. Orange County National is in better condition and a better layout in my opinion so we could have skipped this one.

Old Memorial: Phil Apple was our host and from the first moment we met him I could tell this guy was going to suck. He was actually hosting 6 people that day. There were the 3 of us, 2 guys and 1 single. Instead of allowing the 3 of us to play together, he insisted on breaking us all up. He also ratted out a caddie for drinking alcohol on the course during the round. Woof…I’m just glad he wasn’t in my group.

Overall, the 1,000 greens first time experience gets a 3/10 for me. It almost felt like you were getting into a very popular restaurant in a hippie district or a busy city where they knew they didn’t need your business, so they had no reason to treat you well. You leave feeling only partially satisfied. 3/4 of the hosts were terrible. I’d personally prefer to play public golf than to play a round with stuck up assholes who can’t get over themselves and won’t have any semblance of a genuine conversation on the course. Maybe that’s just me though. I feel like it may have been a different experience if the clubs we went to weren’t so exclusive.

Why would someone do that?

I wonder if you don’t get a guest credit for EACH person you host, is all I can think of.

Bleh, that sounds lackluster. A couple of nice courses sure, but I agree, give me the public golf. Its probably best if Phil Apple never hosts me because I will offer alcohol to all caddies involved.

That’s a bummer to hear. and suck to have spent a lot of money for probably not the worthwhile experience. Is there a way to give feedback on the 1000 greens website on the experience of being hosted…or is only the other way around?

I agree that the 2/4 hosts could have been better. They did not understand that playing these courses was a treat for us. 3 hours and 20 minutes around Isleworth was absurd.

Thousand Greens will either sink or swim with the experience of hosted rounds. Unfortunately, our experiences were quite terrible.

With that being said, the idea of sharing your private club with others and meeting new people through golf is an incredible one. With the experience of meeting fellow Refugees, I truly believe RACDG will be a better group than TG.

Wait wait wait wait wait…
You mean to tell me the Florida meet up was a cross-pollination with TG?

Did his Grace approve?

100%, no doubt, it will need like minded hosts who are willing to truly ‘share’

Exactly!
While I may not be able to point out which multi-millionaire athlete lives in each house on the course (seriously, our host pointed out who lived in every single house), I will make sure my guests have a blast and want to come back. (ie not playing in 3 hours and 20 minutes, denying a fun, low stakes match, caring to get to know them, etc)

PS- I emailed Manish about our experience, I will relay his response.
