Seems like a pretty big detail to just gloss over when comparing the Great Lakes to the west/southwest.
Not sure who is riding for the Salton Sea in this thread about an event in WI. The Salton Sea is a complicated problem and it is not a nice place at all anymore, this is true.

Currently transporting at home, so it’s going to be after 11:00 a.m. before I take my first bite that said I would be perfectly happy falling asleep and not doing my job too.

They open at 1030, I rolled up at 1045. It wasn’t planning on going but I was just out driving around plugged one into the maps and there it was!
There were two cars in front of me when I got there so they must have been waiting for them to open!
