I think they’re talking about Wind Watch, where the Car and gang played after Bethpage cancelled their tee time.
Frankly, it still looks pretty bad.

I was absolutely referring to Wind Watch. I’ve played most of the Bethpage courses and they are terrific. I’d throw Eisenhower Red in there too, great track.
Ack, I see. My goof in misreading your comment.

More info on Order of Merit aka OoM Order of Merit — RACDG NY Metro Chapter
and PGL PGL — RACDG NY Metro Chapter
in order to participate in both the OoM and the PGL, you have to be a RACDGNY member, but you do not have to be an RACDGNY member to play in the Bethpage event (but we’d love to have you) Membership — RACDG NY Metro Chapter
$5 ain’t gonna do shit. Can’t even get a coffee for that now. Make it $50 at least.
6 cancellations in a month should result in losing a digit. 1 is PLENTY, 2 at the max.
In defense of cancels, it’s nearly impossible to get tee times but everyone still tries to get what they can get and then figure out afterwards if they can make it work or not. We’ll also book foursomes and then reduce afterwards as needed. This is a result of the bot issue but I think this will change the behavior of real people more than the bots.
This is progress but they should reduce the cancellations to 2 or 4 and agree the non-refundable fee should be more. If you made it $25 that would make everyone, including the bots, be more discerning about their bookings
Analogous to the ball rollback, it’s nice to see something being done but they should go further.
Another example of a weak cancellation policy because of people whining that “life happens” or some other bullshit.
In fact, life does happen. As noted above, people make reservations when they become available without having the chance to check with their group first. Or, yeah, other priorities mean that people have to forego enjoying their pastime. That’s not bullshit.
Making reservations before you have a full compliment to fill it isnt cool. But thats my view.
Folks have noted the big items but this one is particularly interesting to me:
- Players not checked in at least 45 minutes prior to their tee time will be marked as a no-show and the slot will be released for walk-ups.
a) This won’t actually happen. I promise that the drones behind the glass will cave on this every time unless you show up <15 mins before your time (especially if you’re a regular)
b) If it somehow does happen this now just means there are gonna be a bunch of tee time vultures hanging around the front desk (there is not enough room for this). Or it means that people will literally just do laps through the line until a time they want opens up which is frankly hilarious.
My opinion is that there is only one way to fix the tee time issue at bethpage and that is to completely eliminate tee times. Walk ups only baby.
Auction system the fairest.
Any system that can be rigged can’t be pursued
Just make the courses private.
This whole discussion is burying the lede, which is that the state has recognized that there is a bot problem and is doing something about it. I’m with @HibernatingBear that it’s nice to see something being done even though they should go further.
As a non New Yorker, I can book online, but there arent many tee times.
I would like to give James Colgan and Golf.com a shoutout here. When Bethpage announced these changes, they immediately credited us for forcing the issue with our podcast. That’s not how every news organization would have handled it.
All class.
