Well, trip got off to a rocky start at 6a this morning… I’m notorious for cutting it close at airports and usually get to our lovely GSO 31min before if I’m checking a bag. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t realize they had changed the bag cutoff to 45min since the last time I flew… so have to get rebooked. Says I can get in 5p…ffuck. Tell him I need to get there by 2 (2:50p occ tee time) and he’s on the phone for like 10min while I’m looking at booking a completely different flight on American that gets in at 1:45p. Flight is like $45 more ($380 vs. $425) + have to pay for checked bag so like $125. Not ideal but small price to pay to get there on time.
As I’m getting ready to purchase he says to put my other bag on the scale. I said I can’t take the flight to get there at 5… he said he is putting me on standby for a flight that gets in at 130. So caught off guard (since that flight was sold out it wasn’t showing up in any searches) I gave him the bag. As I go to security my app updates and I see my standby status: GSO-ATL no problem, but ATL-OMA there’s 14 seats and I’m 14 out of 14 on standby list. They say I should be good but never know it’s “a toss up, honestly.” Not exactly the affirmation I’m looking for, so back to the American option…
At this point I’ve wavered so long it’s now within the 2hr cutoff American has for selling tickets online so have to go to counter. So I leave security and go to counter and she says the price has gone up and they charge a fee for booking at the counter (wtf don’t even spirit/frontier sell cheaper tickets in person). So now it’s like $525 + bags so it’s >$200 difference and I say fuck it back through security and cross my fingers with Delta. Maybe I’ll just offer someone cash at the gate to take the later flight.
Fast forward through some podcasts/light plane reading on the 51min GSO-ATL flight my bowels are churning as we landed at ~915a. So I make my way to the D terminal and pop off in the bathroom real quick… as I sit there I check on my status and now there’s only 13 seats but I’m still 14 on the list (first man out, just like in my qualifier yesterday 
). So now I’m thinking, “well at least my cash isn’t going to get wasted at the casino, it’ll go to a kind soul in ATL.” But then as I finish up I get a gate change notification to A (damn that’s a long walk - and no I don’t take airport shuttles). As I debate walking to A or going to a help desk I reload the app and it shows 102 seats open. I’m like that’s as many seats as the whole plane has so gotta be a glitch. But I go to buy a ticket and the flight is now showing up and the seatmap is wide open… what’s going on? Hmm they changed us to a 757 from a 717!!! (Translation: upgraded plane now means I’ve got a seat!). See you soon Nebraska

TLDR: golf gods are looking out this morning… missed my flight and was shitting bricks whether I’d get a seat on the next flight. As soon as removed said brick in ATL, got the good news that I will indeed be making it
