Easily one of the best swings in the CLC you will see. @cjnussbaum1219 thanks for sharing your stories and just know we are all going through something. The Brief
It is often said that matchplay offers competitors the purest form of golf. The way the game was intended to be played. It is also rumored that The Carolinas offers the purest golf courses this side of the pond. Well why not bring those two things together for a glorious competition shared amongst friends? Yes this is a copy from last year, why ruin a good thing, let’s run it back!
The Details
The CLC Matchplay will be a year long event, consisting of competition in and around the “Carolinas” area. These competitors, based on regional preference, will be placed into pods for our “group stage” competition, play matches, and advance on until we crown a champion.
Everyone who signs up will be guaranteed at least three matches as a part of your “pod” play.

The deadline for signup at the link above is February 29th at 11:59PM Eastern.
There will be a $25 buy in for the matchplay. This is for two main reasons:
- This holds folks accountable for signing up and playing their matches.
- We will utilize the funds to help run back end logistics, trophy / prize funding, subsidize costs for the final 4, and donations to charity.
Frequently asked questions
- How does this work with the regional / national roosts competitions?
- CLC Matchplay will remain separate from the roost competitions.
- Do I have to be a refuge / nest member?
- Nope, you just have to like some competitive golf and make sure we know to get a hold of you for matches.
- I am going to make the Final Four, when and where will that be?
- TBD for now, going to work on getting that nailed ASAP. It will be a weekend in October, because the sun remains undefeated. We will make it a great golf destination! Past locations included: Forest Creek, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, and Old Barnwell.
- When is the matchplay going to get started?
- I promise we will over communicate over time, for now the plan is to get as many folks signed up who are interested (Deadline Feb) and then start working on the logistics / schedule from there. Likely launch date of 3/15 with 3 months to get your pod matches in.
- So who are past champions?

Its Selection Sunday… What a great freaking day to unveil our CLC Matchplay Pods
Some fun stats:
- 78 Golfers is our biggest field yet
- Old Barnwell was the most common requested Final 4 location
- Sorry to the one person who requested we move to discord
Format
- Pod Play will last March 18 - July 1
- Almost every pod is either 4 or 5 players. You are requested to play one match against each of the members of your pod.
- Pod scoring: 3 points for a win. 1 pt for a tie. .5 points if you do not play the match in the timeframe
- Top 2 golfers from each pod will advance to the knockout stages
- Round of 32: July 1 - August 4
- Round of 16: August 5 - Sept 8
- Elite 8: Sept 9 - Oct 6
- Final 4: One of 10/12, 10/19 or 10/26 weekends - location TBD
Actions
- Check out the TRACKER SHEET (I’ll post / unlock after I announce all the pods). One member of your pod will need to duplicate the “Example tracker” tab to keep track of your pod play matches.
- Start a chat with your pod to start planning matches, talking trash, and encouraging them to get their deposit in.
FAQ
- 78 x 25 = $1950 dollars what does that go towards?
A: For the most part it goes to the Final 4 weekend. The plan is to gift those guys with free golf, lodging, and maybe even a gift or 2 for the weekend. - How do I decide where to play my matches?
A: I encourage a 3and1 model. One competitor gives three options, the other competitor choses which one to play. - What happens if someone has to withdraw?
A: Most likely will be a forfeit of the match in the group stage, but I promise we will work it out.
4: What if a person in my pod isn’t on the refuge?
A: You should be able to find them in the whatsapp chat, but let me know if you need help - I have phone numbers and emails, but won’t share all those unless needed.
