Can confirm that Opalite and Wood are both bangers.

Though I didn’t hear any single lyric that can top “I leap from the gallows and levitate down your street.” Which is still just an awesome line.

After a couple more listens, still really like it but think it’s missing an A+ “Cruel Summer” level banger. I think Opalite comes closest but isn’t quite there.

Can’t like this enough. Have a reply.

Am I the only one who likes Elizabeth Taylor?

I don’t know that I agree, because if you have a pre-conceived notion… and it’s different, you might be caught up in trying to reckon what you’re hearing. Reputation is my favorite album, I think, and it’s somewhat disjointed and out of order and stuff but was a definite grower. No pun intended. :stuck_out_tongue:

@notjustinkaiser, no, you’re not the only one. Maybe the only one if it’s your favorite.

To be fair, Shakespeare had a bunch of rudimentary dick references too

I don’t really agree with this. In general it’s probably true but I can think of some albums I for sure would call great that I did not like at first. “Kid A,” by Radiohead, “Dolittle” by Pixies immediately come to mind.

Cooking dinner so not focused on lyrics but halfway through Father Figure and my head’s bopping.

Gotta keep the Groundlings entertained.

Also me

Not sure I’m going to agree with Nora on the Every Single Album podcast on TLOAS. I’m not super far in yet, but Nora seems almost upset that Taylor is in love and wants to move to Ohio (I don’t think she actually does) and pop out a few kids and live a normal life (you know, like the other billionaire most famous women in the world who live next door to us all).

I also don’t think Taylor feels “uncool” or “rejected by the city cool people” or whatever she was going on about.

I don’t think you need to feel “rejected” by a community to feel deep down like you don’t really fit in or feel at ease with them.

Success doesn’t overcome that, necessarily.

I’m of the opinion that this latest ‘movie’ is just a blatant cash grab and actually a bit of an insult to her fans; Seems like something she could have just released on her YouTube channel or even a streaming service, but did this whole movie theater thing to bilk more money from her fans.

FTFY. She’s the GOAT of pilfering money from her mob.

Not saying she doesn’t deliver quality #product in return for that cash, but she’s mastered the machine and never seems to get shit for it. It’s truly impressive.

Both things can be true:

  • she’s not giving much away for free/has always been super capitalistic
  • her biggest fans want it, would take more of it, and are grateful for the chance

With respect to the movie, a friend (and her daughter) went, and they had a BLAST. Went again. The time they spent in the theater was easily worth the cost to them as an experience. The mother said that if she could have paid a fair price for it afterward, she’d have paid much, much more. It meant that much to her and her daughter.

I think doing it in the limited time frame that she did it (it’s done, right?)… I think the BTS stuff will come out separately. And maybe the clips where she explains the stuff behind each song (that’s what the “movie” was, right?).

Whether she charges for it again or puts it out on YouTube in a month… we’ll see.

You can still enjoy Taylor’s music largely for free through multiple outlets. You don’t even need to buy an album anymore, just turn on Spotify and click repeat. The movie theater experience, the tours, the merch… it’s all ancillary stuff sold to people who opt in. Sure, it might suck to have to explain to your kid that the Eras Tour isn’t in the budget, but it doesn’t mean that your kid doesn’t get to listen to Opalite.

She’s an uber-capitalist, but she’s actually creating things people value. I can’t get mad at that like I do when I have to deal with my recently-purchased-by-PE veteranarian’s office that suddenly lost all ability to do anything competently except bill me.
