What if I just support CTE?

Don’t really want to dive in to yet more budget cost, but post pandemic one should include not just inflation but the cost of tee times outpacing the rate of inflation.

(And I am on it’s a buddies trip with loose parameters, it makes me think fondly of my own trips and the specific budget insignificant)

In college, my now-wife’s roommate was dating an NFL TE who was back in town for spring finishing his degree. Struggling for conversation over a deathly hungover brunch I asked him if he ever thinks about CTE.

“Why the fuck would you ask me that?”

Fair play to him.

To be fair to @golf4miami, I think there are people who agree with him. They just aren’t doubling down and tripling down in their arguments, they are just moving on to a different thread to argue about something else.

I only argue with people on my home turf. Come meet me in the memes thread if you got (massive veiny) beef.

If Strapped does continue on budget somewhat aside. I would not hate the idea that if the Mega Bonus is hit then the next season or a mid point season is Tron and Soly on the OG $500 budget. $800 seemed relatively comfy and we already got to see the boys break bad and go all out. So maybe if they hit it then they get to flip the script on the C Suite one time. I love Randy and Neil and they are absolutely the heart of it but I would not hate the idea of an alternate reality where their accomplishments lead to TC and Soly suffering.

Could be Strapped: The Reckoning or Strapped: Corporate Retreat.

Strapped is fun to watch because the hosts are entertaining. That’s kind of it. The whole thing.

While the low budget certainly adds to the story they present, does it really matter if it’s $500? $800? $1200? It will most likely be good no matter what the budget is as long as it can be presented as some sort of moderate “challenge” to navigate.

Strapped Pebble Beach is what I’m waiting for.

Totally agree. It’s golf’s Parts Unknown. Bourdain didn’t need a specific budget to make a good show. Just needed to visit some cool people, tell the story of the place a bit, let the strapped boys be the strapped boys and mission accomplished. This had all of that

It could be as simple as Neil and Randy are at a point in life now where spooning on a full sized mattress for the #content isn’t quite as appealing to them?

I mean Randy himself said “My boy Neil is married now, he’s used to a certain lifestyle” at the beginning of the Spring Training season.

And I can fully appreciate that while also lamenting that one of the key aspects of the show wasn’t really present this time around.

One thing that I’ve been marinating on since we’ve kind of come back around to talking about this some more today is the slight shift in tone and story in the last two seasons. In preparation for this being released on Wednesday night I went back and rewatched every season since the beginning and there is definitely a different quality to these last two seasons than the previous ones.

As much as everyone wants to talk about how Strapped is like the Bourdain of golf shows, I feel like the last two seasons have been sort of a referendum on that because while they went to a place and kind of found some stuff to do, it almost seemed like they went in knowing exactly what all of the plans were before hand. Which is not the sense that I get from the seasons previous to these where they would just pick a spot on the map and show up to golf and find the things to do in between and hang out with the characters before and after golf.

If they truly do want to continue doing these trips like this where the budget doesn’t seem to matter and it’s just a slight guideline that’s easy to beat or slide under then why not just get rid of the money round and mega bonus? Let the boys play in the space and remove the “constraints”. If it’s truly more about the buddies trip and the fun you have along the way then let it just be that and start a new series.

Seems to me like forcing the budget issue plays closer to the type of product that would have the thumbnail “Watch the INSANE WAY the Strapped Boys attempt to stay under budget!” and further away from a product that I feel is attempting to inspire buddy trips to places that are reasonable and near people within this community and don’t have to be to the likes of Bandon or Pinehurst.

If you’re this pissy about the budget not being enough of a constraint, can’t imagine how it would be if they got rid of the money round and mega bonus

Rebrand it as the MAGA bonus and find a way to scam conservatives into paying all the production costs.

Offering a nuanced critique of one of my favorite tv shows =/= being pissy.

Maybe my problem is that I’m trying to get people to understand that just because I see the series as having changed, that doesn’t mean that I hate it or think it’s horrible. Getting people to understand my point of view here while also trying to understand theirs. Should have known better.

Getting rid of the megabonus would be dumb, because I want to see how crazy they go if/when they ever actually make it. Its gonna happen and its going to be amazing.

As for the money round, even with the increased budget, I like it as an added level of competition with themselves.

Don’t. You’ll have more fun leaning into being a heel and making your arguments even more nonsensical.
