Yeah I don’t think this is that controversial really. Most sports fans are not fans of Jemele. She isn’t likeable, point blank.
I agree she is polarizing, I’ve had issues with her sports takes when she was an early writer at ESPN. I think with this particular podcast, it’s not as big of a risk. The Wire is a show that is critically loved across the board, and lends to many, many nuanced subjects and takes across seasons. Although I wouldn’t say I “like” Jemele Hill, I do recognize her intelligence. Personally, I think her on a podcast about The Wire, will be much more interesting, than if she was trying to talk straight sports.
I haven’t listened to the podcast yet but I’m sure she’ll bring a lot of great perspective and thoughtful insight. She may be controversial but doesn’t that make for great content at the very least?
(Disclosure: very much a Jemelle fan)
Did u see the interview with isris elba where he talks about trying to fake the accent? Made me laugh.
My jaw rarely drops anymore from the things said on here but this…c’mon now…
I’m convinced that 95% of Refugees are really just other sports media members in disguise.
Yep, laughed how it came about. I loved the guy watching Luther back in the U.K.
Now I’m a troll for being one of the 80 million men who aren’t fans of Jemele Hill? The opinions that aren’t allowed on here…hahah
Bill Simmons is washed up.
(Might belong in the controversial takes thread.)
Most white sports fans, I could buy that.
This is what I mean when I say that one of the things you seem to ALWAYS get in trouble with is the assumption that you (or those you follow on Twitter!) are representative of the public at large. They aren’t. Neither are my friends or me. There’s a HUGE amount of different opinions on literally everything in this country. Refusing to believe that or even acknowledge it is a pretty big blinder.
You said 80 million sports fans don’t like Jemele Hill.
- I’m sure that 80 million PEOPLE don’t even know who she is
- I’m even more sure you can’t speak for 80 million people of any stripe
- I think 80 million “sports” fans can’t agree on almost ANYTHING.
I don’t even know why I’m bothering to respond.
You have repeatedly made blanket statements about the entire community when someone says anything that goes against your world view.
Also, here’s a definition of troll:
a person who makes a deliberately offensive or provocative online post.
You fit that definition. If you don’t think you do, whatever, go on living in your own world.
We’ll go on being terrible parents and sports media members in disguise.
Crawling? There’s been two my guy. Relax. She’s not my cup of tea but I found a way to move past the posts.
You actually spent time arguing the 80 million number?
As if I cited that number like it came from a Pew study!
It’s hyperbolic…I’m simply saying she’s disliked my many, many, many sports fans. Polarizing to say the least.
This is flagged…this place man. The worst.
Hahaha because I said Jemele Hill was a risky choice and that she’s polarizing and not very likeable to many sports fans including myself?
That’s outside the boundaries of acceptable discourse?
Unbelievable.
Calm down, no reason to be a snowflake this time of year.
Hive mind man.
You just have to realize that you won’t get the benefit of the doubt here based on your past comments, I for one am not a fan of jemele hill, have absolutely no interest in listening or consuming any of her content, and think it’s a bad choice given her polarity (that even fans have agreed with), but man you really need to stop digging yourself hole after hole or you will continue to not get the benefit of the doubt.
I can’t get past this comment. Really? The self-hating white guy is becoming incredibly prevalent, it’s sad.
